The Ning'er Hani and Yi Autonomous County is an autonomous county under the jurisdiction of Pu'er City in the southwest of Yunnan Province,China.
The county was formerly named Pu'er. When Simao changed its name to Pu'er in 2007,the county's name was changed to Ning'er for clarity. [4]
In the present,Ning'er Hani and Yi Autonomous County has 6 towns and 3 townships.

The population of the county has a large proportion of native Hani and Yi people in a predominantly Han Chinese population. As of 2003 the county records a population of approximately 190,000 people.
Ethnic Bai (population:5,139) are found in Kesa 克洒,Heping village 和平村,Mengxian township 勐先乡 (Pu'er County Gazetteer 1993:120). [5]
The Datou 达头 people number 254 persons and are found in Ning'er County and Simao City. They consider themselves to be ethnic Yi,and also speak a Yi language (You 2013:133). [6]

Pu'er is a prefecture-level city in southern Yunnan Province,China. The urban administrative center of Pu'er is Simao District,which is also the former name of the prefecture-level city itself. A major downturn in the price of tea in 2007 caused severe economic distress in the area. The price of Pu'er has since recovered and Pu'er tea,a type of dark tea,still contributes much to the income of the area.
Lancang Lahu Autonomous County is an autonomous county under the jurisdiction of Pu'er City,in southwestern Yunnan province,China. Lancang is the same as Lan Xang,and refers to the Mekong River on its eastern borders and adopted by modern Laos,a Tai word meaning Million Elephants.

Formerly both Simao and the surrounding region of Pu'er prefecture played a major role in the historic tea horse trade between Yunnan,Tibet and India,with Simao acting as the southern terminus or starting point for the transport of tea by mule caravan north to Dali,Lijiang and Lhasa. Tea remains a central crop and product of the region.
Jiangcheng Hani and Yi Autonomous County is an autonomous county under the jurisdiction of Pu'er City,in southern Yunnan,China,bordering Laos and Vietnam to the south,making it the only county in the province to border more than one country. By road,its seat,the town of Menglie (勐烈镇),is 520 km (320 mi) from Kunming and 145 km (90 mi) from Simao District,the municipal seat of Pu'er.

The Monument to the National Unity Oath,which is situated in Ning'er Hani and Yi Autonomous County,Pu'er City,Yunnan Province,China,is one of the national critical cultural relics protection units. After a traditional Wa oath-taking ceremony to promote national unity in Ning'er Hani and Yi Autonomous County,the monument was erected on January 1,1951. The monument was initially situated in the Red Field of Pu'er;however,it was abandoned once time. It was initially housed in the Cultural Center of Ning'er Hani and Yi Autonomous County after its recovery. Subsequently,in 2000,it was relocated to the "National Unity Garden" on the northern side of Ning'er county town. The Monument to the National Unity Oath was referred to as "the first monument of national unity in new China" and "the first monument of national work in new China." It was included in the fourth group of Yunnan Provincial Cultural Relics Protection in November 1993 and the sixth batch of Major cultural heritage sites under national-level protection in May 2006.
