The appointment of federal judges for United States federal courts is done via nomination by the President of the United States and confirmation by the United States Senate. The tables below provide the composition of all Article III courts which include the Supreme Court and the Courts of Appeals at the end of each four year presidential term,as well as the current compositions of the District Courts and the Court of International Trade,categorizing the judges by the presidential term during which they were first appointed to their seats.

President Bill Clinton nominated Chin to the district court on March 24,1994,and Chin was confirmed August 9 of that same year. On October 6,2009,President Barack Obama nominated Chin to the Second Circuit. He was confirmed on April 22,2010,by the United States Senate,filling the vacancy created by Judge Robert D. Sack who assumed senior status. Chin was the first Asian American appointed as a United States District Judge outside of the Ninth Circuit.

Dzhokhar Anzorovich Tsarnaev is an American terrorist of Chechen and Avar descent who was convicted of perpetrating the Boston Marathon bombing. Dzhokhar and his older brother,Tamerlan Tsarnaev,planted pressure cooker bombs near the finish line of the race,killing four people and injuring 264 others.
The trial of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev for the Boston Marathon bombing on April 15,2013,began on March 4,2015,in front of the US District Court for the District of Massachusetts,nearly two years after the pre-trial hearings. Dzhokhar Tsarnaev's attorney,Judy Clarke,opened by telling the jurors that her client and his older brother,Tamerlan Tsarnaev,planted a bomb killing three and injuring hundreds,as well as murdering an MIT police officer days later. In her 20-minute opening statement,Clarke said:"There's little that occurred the week of April the 15th ... that we dispute." Tsarnaev was found guilty on all 30 counts and has been sentenced to death by lethal injection for his crimes.

Melissa Raye DuBose is an American lawyer who has served as an associate judge of the Rhode Island District Court since 2019. She is the designate to serve as a United States district judge of the United States District Court for the District of Rhode Island.
