Project 20386 is Russia's newest class of corvettes being constructed by Severnaya Verf for the Russian Navy. Based on the Steregushchiy and Gremyashchiy classes, the new class was to have been larger, incorporating a more stealthy design. As originally conceived, there were plans to build a series of at least ten such corvettes. [1]

History

The lead ship of the class was laid down on 28 October 2016 and is expected to enter service after 2020. [3] [4] In February 2019, the technical readiness of the lead vessel reached 12%. [5] On 9 April 2019, Russian Defence Minister Sergey Shoygu announced, the ship will be named Merkuriy (Mercury). [6] [7] However, the name may have been again changed to Derzky. [8]

In July 2021, the superstructure of Derzky was delivered to Severnaya Verf. [9]

On 31 May 2023, it was reported that the corvette would be redesigned for further development of innovative solutions. [10]

On 7 July 2023, however, TASS quoted a source in the Russian defense industry that reported there would be no further construction of corvettes under the Project 20386 in its current form, with the program effectively being closed. The main reasons for this is due to the high cost and new technologies of the corvettes. Instead, more Steregushchiy-class and Gremyashchiy-class corvettes will be built by Severnaya Verf and the Amur Shipbuilding Plant. [11]

The Borei class, alternate transliteration Borey, Russian designation Project 955 Borei and Project 955A Borei-A, are a series of nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarines being constructed by Sevmash for the Russian Navy. The class has been replacing the steadily retiring Russian Navy Delta III and Delta IV classes and fully retired Typhoon, all three classes being Soviet-era submarines.

The Steregushchiy class, Russian designation Project 20380, is a class of corvettes being built for the Russian Navy. Designed by the Almaz Central Marine Design Bureau, subsequent vessels were built to an improved design, incorporating the Zaslon-Redut SAM system. The ship full displacement and dimensions are large for a corvette, thus it is designated as a frigate by NATO. The Steregushchiy class has been further developed into the Gremyashchiy class and Project 20386 subclasses. The export variant is known as Project 20382 Tigr.

The Yasen class, Russian designations Project 885 Yasen and Project 885M Yasen-M, also referred to as the Graney class, are a series of nuclear-powered cruise missile submarines designed by the Malakhit Marine Engineering Bureau and built by Sevmash for the Russian Navy. Design work commenced in earnest in the 1980s with the first submarine built in the 1990s–early 2010s with commissioning in 2013. Two additional boats to an upgraded Yasen-M design were commissioned in 2021 and six more are under construction. Based on the Akula class and Alfa class designs, the Yasen class is projected to replace the Russian Navy's current Soviet-era nuclear attack submarines. The Akula class is optimised for a hunter-killer role, whereas the Yasen class concept uses the platform as a nuclear guided missile submarine (SSGN).

The Admiral Gorshkov class is a class of frigates of the Russian Navy. The ships are being built by the Severnaya Verf in Saint Petersburg at a cost of $250 million per ship. The class, designated by Russia as Project 22350, was designed by the Severnoye Design Bureau and incorporates use of stealth technology. As of August 2020, ten vessels have been ordered for delivery by 2027. The lead ship of the class, Admiral Gorshkov, was commissioned on 28 July 2018.

The Buyan class, Russian designations Project 21630 Buyan and Project 21631 Buyan-M, are series of corvettes developed by Zelenodolsk Design Bureau for the Russian Navy. Since 2010, all subsequent vessels are being constructed as improved Project 21631 subclass, incorporating greater tonnage, stealth technology and the 3S14 vertical launching system for either Kalibr or Oniks anti-ship cruise missiles, significantly enhancing combat capabilities. The ships are primarily designed for operations within littoral zones to protect Russia's vast coastal areas. Due to the small tonnage, they can operate even within shallow parts of oceans and seas and Russia's extensive inland waterway system. The export variant is known as Project 21632 Tornado.

The Gremyashchiy class, Russian designation Project 20385, is an update of the Steregushchiy-class corvettes of the Russian Navy at a cost of 150 million $. This follow-on project was designed by the Almaz Central Marine Design Bureau in Saint Petersburg. The first ship was laid down on 26 May 2011 and the official laying down ceremony took place on 1 February 2012. Although classified as corvettes by the Russian Navy, these ships carry sensors and weapon systems akin to frigates and, as a result, are so classified by NATO.

The Yuriy Ivanov class is a type of Russian SIGINT intelligence collection ship. The ship is designed by the JSC Central Design Bureau "Iceberg". The displacement of the ship is more than 4,000 tons, the cruising range not less than 8,000 miles (13,000 km) and its armament consists of light anti-aircraft weapons. The ship on its performance characteristics and capabilities is considerably superior to similar vessels of previous generations mainly due to the versatility and high level of automation and systems integration. The vessels of this class are designed for providing communication. The first ship, Yuriy Ivanov, was laid down in 2004 and was launched on 30 September 2013. The second ship, Ivan Khurs, was launched on 16 May 2017. Russia originally planned to build at least four such ships by 2020, but this date was later pushed back to 2025.

Project 23550 is a class of armed icebreaking patrol ships with two vessels currently under construction for the Russian Navy at Admiralty Shipyards in Saint Petersburg, Russia. Two ships have been ordered from the Admiralty Shipyards in 2016. The ships are designed to patrol the Russian territorial waters and exclusive economic zone in the Arctic.

The submarine is named after the city of Novosibirsk.
