The Reuben Herzfeld House, also known as Herzfeld-Harpst-Payne House and Mistletoe Bough, is a historic mansion in Alexander City, Alabama, U.S.. It was built from 1890 to 1895 for Reuben Herzfeld, a German-born immigrant, and it was designed in the Queen Anne architectural style. [2] [3] It has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since August 22, 1995. [4]

Built in 1858, it is one of the town's largest and most elaborate 19th-century houses, and is one of three known surviving works of Portland architect Thomas J. Sparrow. The house was built by Allen Christian circa 1835 as the center of a farm that would become one of the major dairy suppliers in central North Alabama. After Christian's death in 1849, the house was purchased by Augustine and Mary Withers. Former Governor of Alabama Reuben Chapman acquired the house in 1873, after his previous house nearby had been burned by departing Union soldiers in 1865. The house remained in Chapman's family from 1873 until 1971. The surrounding farmland has been sold off into suburban development, but the house retains a prominent position on a 2-acre lot on a hillside.
