Sanjay Malhotra (born 14 February 1968) is an Indian bureaucrat who is serving as the Current and 26th Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) since December 11,2024. [3] [4] He is an Indian Administrative Service Officer of 1990 Batch Rajasthan Cadre. [5] Before this,he served as secretary (revenue) in Ministry of Finance of the Government of the Republic of India. In his previous assignment,he held the post of secretary in Department of Financial Services under the Ministry of Finance of the Government of the Republic of India. Previously,he served as the chairman and managing director of the Rural Electrification Corporation and additional secretary in the Ministry of Power of the Government of the Republic of India. [6] Prior,he served in various positions in the Rajasthan government.
Malhotra was born in Bikaner,Rajasthan. He graduated with a Bachelor of Technology in Computer science from the Indian Institute of Technology,Kanpur. [7] He then completed his Master's degree in Public policy from the Princeton University,United States. [7] His Father was an Officer in Border Security Force(BSF).
The Indian Administrative Service (IAS) is the administrative arm of the All India Services of Government of India. The IAS is one of the three All India Services along with the Indian Police Service and Indian Forest Service. Members of these three services serve the Government of India as well as the individual states. IAS officers are also deployed to various government establishments such as constitutional bodies,staff and line agencies,auxiliary bodies,public sector undertakings,regulatory bodies,statutory bodies and autonomous bodies.
