Shahpur Jat is an urban village located near Hauz Khas, in the South Delhi district of Delhi, India.
When the Siri Fort was abandoned, Jats moved to the Shahpur Jat area, being attracted to the fertile lands. [1]
Presently the demography of Shahpur Jat is made up mostly of Jats, Jatav (Chamar) & Brahmins, Baniya and Valmiki are also residents of the village. In 1965, the land was acquired by Central Government to construct Asiad Village. Increasingly people from other places in India are moving into the urban village and also foreigners are attracted by the low rents, parking space, lifestyle, monuments and green belt.
Shahpur Jat is a historical village featuring traditional havelis like DARAJIA POLI, SIRI FORT HAVELI and the remains of the historical capital city Siri Fort, such as the stretches of the thick city walls, all surrounded by 20th century apartment and office buildings. [2]
Due to the exceptionally low rents in the area, and its proximity to the premier institutes like Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi (IITD), Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFTD) and National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Shahpur Jat has attracted many startups and boutiques like KleverKid, Avanti, Holidify, Eckovation, Consure Medical, and Elucidata.

The Delhi Transport Corporation(DTC) is a public sector passenger road transport corporation that manages bus services in Delhi, India. Farrukhnagar is a small town and municipality in Farrukhnagar tehsil of Gurugram district in the Indian state of Haryana. It is situated 21 kilometres (13 mi) from Gurgaon and shares its border with Jhajjar district. It was established in 1732 by Faujdar Khan, the first Nawab of Farrukhnagar and a governor of the Mughal Emperor Farrukhsiyar. The Delhi–Lahore Bus, officially known as Sada-e-Sarhad, is a passenger bus service connecting the Indian capital of New Delhi, Delhi with the city of Lahore, Pakistan via the border transit post at Wagah near Attari. The Routemaster bus number 10 was of symbolic importance to the efforts of the governments of both nations to foster peaceful and friendly relations. In its inaugural run on 19 February 1999, the bus carried the then-Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who was to attend a summit in Lahore and was received by his Pakistani counterpart, Nawaz Sharif at Wagah. In August 2019 Pakistan decided to stop the service in the wake of India revoking Jammu and Kashmir's special status.
Hauz Khas is a neighborhood in South Delhi, its heart being the historic Hauz Khas Complex. Well known in medieval times, the Hauz Khas village has buildings built around the reservoir. There are remnants of Islamic architecture roughly colored by splotches of urban culture. It is centrally located and offers both rural Hauz Khas Village and urban Hauz Khas Enclave, Market environments. Hauz Khas is surrounded by Green Park, SDA to the west, Gulmohar Park towards the north, Sarvapriya Vihar towards the south and Asiad Village and Siri Fort to the east.
Siri Fort, in the city of New Delhi, was built during the rule of Alauddin Khalji, second ruler of Khalji Dynasty, of Delhi Sultanate to defend the city from the onslaught of the Mongols. It was the second of the seven cities of medieval Delhi built around 1303, which at present is seen only in ruins with a few remnants due to its poor quality construction as compared to previous fort constructions in India (pictured).
Jahanpanah was the fourth medieval city of Delhi established in 1326–1327 by Muhammad bin Tughlaq of the Delhi Sultanate. To counter the persistent threat of Mongol invasions, Tughlaq constructed the fortified city of Jahanpanah, incorporating the Adilabad Fort, built in the 14th century, along with all the establishments located between Qila Rai Pithora and Siri Fort. Neither the city nor the fort has survived. Many reasons have been offered for such a situation. One of these is exemplified by the idiosyncratic rule of Mohammed bin Tughlaq, who inexplicably decreed the capital to be moved to Daulatabad in the Deccan, only to return to Delhi soon after.
