Vasant Vihar is a diplomatic and residential sub-division of the New Delhi district of Delhi, India. It is located near the diplomatic area of Chanakyapuri, and houses over 50 diplomatic missions of foreign countries, [1] [2] including the High Commission of South Africa, and embassy of Argentina.

History

It was originally developed in 1960s by retired Government of India officers, later developed as a posh residential locality like Air India And Indian Airlines Colony due to its proximity to diplomatic enclave of Chanakyapuri. [3] [4]

Locality

The four main streets in Vasant Vihar are Munirka Marg, Vasant Marg, Poorvi Marg and Paschimi Marg, literally Eastern and Western Street. These form a rough triangle that encloses much of the neighbourhood. The neighbourhood is primarily residential and when first planned consisted of six blocks named A to F, with each block having its own local market. Vasant Vihar has several parks in every block. The demographic of Vasant Vihar is primarily composed of wealthy business families, senior government officials, and high-net-worth individuals, contributing to its status as one of Delhi’s most exclusive neighborhoods.

Education

Vasant Vihar also has schools such as Modern School, [5] Delhi Public School (Junior Branch), The Shri Ram School (Junior Wing), Tagore International School, Guru Harkrishan Public School, Holy Child Auxilium School (Senior branch), Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Suraj Bhan DAV Public School, and Sarvodaya School.

Economy

The corporate office of Hero MotoCorp, formerly Hero Honda, is at Basant Lok in Vasant Vihar. In 1996, Vasant Vihar witnessed the opening of India's first McDonald's restaurant, it was also the first McDonald's restaurant in the world to not serve beef and pork based products. [6] [7]

Palam Marg is essentially a stretch of the Outer Ring Road of New Delhi which serves as the access point to the affluent neighbourhood of Vasant Vihar in South West Delhi. On one side of the road, there are twenty five houses which are a mixture of embassies and high profile residences.
These, separated from the main road by a service road, are considered to be among the best addresses in Delhi and since the plots of land are large, come at a premium. On the other side of the road are a mixture of parks and the famous Malai Mandir. Well known past and present residents include Ajay Bijli, the owner of PVR Cinemas, Aroon Purie Media tycoon, Deepak Kothari, owner of Kothari Products known for Pan Parag.

Rajkiya Pratibha Vikas Vidyalayas, popularly known as RPVV or Pratibha) renamed as Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar Schools Of Specialized Excellence (DBRA-SOSE) are a school system run by the Directorate of Education, Government of Delhi in Delhi, India. The member schools are in Raj Niwas Marg, Surajmal Vihar, Civil Lines, Yamuna Vihar,Kishanganj, Lajpat Nagar, Shalimar Bagh, Hari Nagar, Rohini, Paschim Vihar, Vasant Kunj, Lodhi Road, Link Road, Dwarka in sector 5, 10 and 19, Gandhi Nagar, Rohini sector 21, Gautampuri, INA Colony,I.P. Hauz Khas is a neighborhood in South Delhi, its heart being the historic Hauz Khas Complex. Well known in medieval times, the Hauz Khas village has amazing buildings built around the reservoir. There are remnants of Islamic architecture roughly colored by splotches of urban culture. It is centrally located and offers both rural Hauz Khas Village and urban Hauz Khas Enclave, Market environments. Hauz Khas is surrounded by Green Park, SDA to the west, Gulmohar Park towards the north, Sarvapriya Vihar towards the south and Asiad Village and Siri Fort to the east.

Nirula's is India's oldest fast food restaurant chain. Based in North India and most popular in the NCR Delhi, it was Delhi's first fast food restaurant, opening in Connaught Place in 1977. Today it has over 70 outlets in NCR Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, and Uttar Pradesh states, offering a "Desi" version of Western fast food items.

Sarita Vihar is a residential colony situated in South East Delhi, National Capital Territory of Delhi, India. It is near the Kalindi Kunj- Noida Toll bridge or GD Birla Marg-Road 13A which connects the district to Noida.The area is situated close to Uttar pradesh border. It is believed that the site was primarily chosen as the construction site for the Games Village of the 1982 Asian Games, however on the insistence of the late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, the plan was changed to convert it into an upscale residential housing locality. In 2013, it was awarded the "Greenest Colony in Delhi" tag by the then Chief Minister of Delhi Sheila Dikshit, credited to the efforts of its RWA members who have aggressively worked towards improving the state of parks and green spots in the locality.

Defence Colony is a neighbourhood in Delhi. It was built in the 1960s for veterans of the Indian Armed Forces. It serves as the administrative headquarters of the South East Delhi district of Delhi.

Vivek Vihar is one of 3 subdivisions of Delhi's Shahdara district, near the edge of Ghaziabad as well as a small neighbourhood in that subdivision located beside just besides the Choudhary Charan Singh road along with Uttar Pradesh border.
