New Friends Colony is a posh residential colony of South Delhi, India. [1] It consists of A, B, C, D Blocks. It is situated near Uttar Pradesh border.
The landmarks in and around the area include Jamia Millia Islamia (A Central University by an act of Indian Parliament), 5-star hotel The Suryaa, and Lotus Tower (Berjaya Tower). Mata Ka Mandir is also located centrally and consists of many mosques and gurudwaras. Thyrocare Technologies Limited is situated in Ishwar Nagar, New Friends Colony. Sukhdev Vihar Metro Station and Ashram metro station are the nearest to New Friends Colony and run directly to Vasant Vihar and Terminal 1 Delhi Airport. Fortis Escorts Heart Institute is a renowned Hospital located in the Locality. The New Friends Colony Community Centre is located near the D block and has a Cinema Hall, and many restaurants and bars.

Jamia Millia Islamia is a public and research university located in New Delhi, India. Originally established at Aligarh, United Provinces during the British Empire in 1920, it moved to its current location in Okhla in 1935. It was given the deemed status by the University Grants Commission in 1962. Jamia Millia Islamia became a central university by an act of the Indian Parliament which was passed on 26 December 1988.
Mukhtar Ahmed Ansari was an Indian nationalist and political leader, and former president of the Indian National Congress and the Muslim League during the Indian Independence Movement. He was one of the founders of Jamia Millia Islamia University. He remained it's chancellor from 1928 to 1936.
Saifuddin Kitchlew was an Indian independence activist, barrister, politician and later a leader of the peace movement. A member of Indian National Congress, he first became Punjab Provincial Congress Committee head and later the General Secretary of the All India Congress Committee in 1924. He is most remembered for the protests in Punjab after the implementation of Rowlatt Act in March 1919, after which on 10 April, he and another leader Satyapal, were secretly sent to Dharamsala. A public protest rally against their arrest and that of Gandhi, on 13 April 1919 at Jallianwala Bagh, Amritsar, led to the infamous Jallianwala Bagh massacre. He was also a founding member of Jamia Millia Islamia. He was awarded the Stalin Peace Prize in 1952.

Abdul Majeed Khwaja was an Indian lawyer, educationist, social reformer and freedom fighter from Aligarh. In 1920, he along with others founded Jamia Millia Islamia and later served its vice chancellor and chancellor.

Maharani Bagh is a residential area in South East Delhi, comprising several blocks and multiple markets. It is one of the most posh and upscale neighbourhoods of Delhi and is home to some of the most influential families from government and business. Maharani Bagh is a sought after, gated residential area within New Friends Colony and consists of residential parks surrounded by large bungalows. Some of its notable residents include BJP leader Meneka Gandhi and, spokesperson and businessman, Suhel Seth.
Zafar Ahmad Nizami was an Indian author, poet and writer. He served the Jamia Millia Islamia as Professor of Political Science for about 30 years and authored books like Memarān-e-Jamia, Hindustān ke chand Siyasi Rahnuma, Maulana Azad Ki Kahani and Tarīkh-e-Hind: Ahd-e-Jadeed.
C Krishnan Nair (1902–1986) was an Indian politician of the Indian National Congress, an Indian Independence activist, a Gandhian who participated in the Salt March of 1930 and a Member of the Indian Parliament of the First and Second Lok Sabha. He was popularly known as Delhi Gandhi or Nairji.
Abdul Lateef Azmi was an Urdu litterateur and among the close associates of the founders of Jamia Millia Islamia. He joined Jamia Millia as a student of B.A. in 1936 and served the university over 50 years in various capacities. He was one of the longest serving editors of Jamia Millia's official magazine, Jamia. He died in Delhi on May 11, 2002. In 1985, Maktaba Jamia, New Delhi, published a book Abdul Lateef Azmi Hayat-o-Khidmat. Several scholars contributed chapters in the book on various facets of Abdul Lateef Azmi and his life.
Students and artists created art and graphite paintings on the walls and roads of the Jamia Millia Islamia campus in New Delhi, India, following the 2019 Jamia Millia Islamia attack by Delhi Police in December 2019. The protest art spread into the neighborhood of Shaheen Bagh and their protests, and continued to be created until January and February 2020.
