Shakti Samuha is a non-profit organisation working against women trafficking. It is based in Nepal and was formed by the survivors of women trafficking in India, including Charimaya Tamang. The organisation is a recipient of the Ramon Magsaysay Award 2013. [1] [2] [3]
India operated a massive raid in illegal brothels and enslavements in 1996 and rescued 500 women including 128 of Nepalese background. These women realised they need an organisation to support other women in the similar situations and together they formed Shakti Samuha in 1996 and registered in 2000.[ citation needed ]
The Communist Party of Nepal , abbreviated CPN , CPN-Maoist Centre, CPN Maoist Centre, or CPN (MC), is the third largest political party in Nepal. It was founded in 1994 after breaking away from the Communist Party of Nepal. The party launched an armed struggle in 1996 against the Nepalese government. In 2006, the party formally joined mainstream politics after signing a peace agreement following the 2006 Nepalese revolution.

Shakti Prasad Gauchan is a Nepalese former professional cricketer. An all-rounder, Shakti is a right-handed batsman and a left-arm orthodox spinner. He made his debut for Nepal against Oman in July 2002. In July 2018, he announced that he would retire from international cricket after the conclusion of Netherlands tour. In August 2018, he retired after playing the first ODI of the tour. In December 2018, he retired from all forms of cricket.

Nepal is mainly a source country for men, women and children subjected to the forced labor and sex trafficking. U.S. State Department's Office to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons placed the country in "Tier 2" in 2017.

Created in 1987, ABC Nepal was among the first Non Governmental Organisations established in Nepal. It was registered soon after the introduction of Nepalese multiparty democracy in 1991. The president of the organisation is Durga Ghimire.
Charimaya ("Anu") Tamang is a recipient of the Hero Acting to End Modern-Day Slavery Award 2011, founder of Shakti Samuha which has been awarded the Ramon Magsaysay Award 2013. She was born into a poor family and sold to India when she was 16 years to work in a brothel as a sex worker. She spent 22 months in a brothel before the Indian government rescued her along with over 200 other Nepali women in 1996. Upon her return to Nepal, Tamang was ostracised by her community.
Sunita Danuwar, is a Nepalese human rights activist and the founder of Sunita Foundation and Shakti Samuha, a non-governmental organization based in Nepal formed by women rescued from brothels in India that works against the trafficking of women.
Priti Patkar is an Indian social worker and human rights activist. She is the co-founder and director of the organisation Prerana that has done pioneering work in the red-light districts of Mumbai, India to protect children vulnerable to commercial sexual exploitation and trafficking.

Jayamma Bandari is an Indian former sex worker turned social worker. In 2018 she was awarded the Nari Shakti Puraskar. In 2011 she founded an organisation which supports sex workers and their children with choices.
