Sky Regional Airlines (SRA) was an airline whose corporate headquarters was located on the property of Toronto Pearson International Airport, Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. Linked with Skyservice Business Aviation, it began operation under the Air Canada Express brand on May 1, 2011. [3] The airline began offering daily flights between Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport and Montréal–Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport. [4] [5]

History

In 2010, Air Canada leased the Bombardier Q400s and began sub-leasing them to SRA. [6] The aircraft had been operated by Lynx Aviation of Denver. [7] They were delivered to Sky Regional between November 2010 and the beginning of 2011. The aircraft are configured with 74 seats, [8] similar to the Porter Airlines fleet. [9] The planes are painted in Air Canada Express livery. Russell Payson was founder and chairman of the board of SRA. [10]

In October 2012, SRA added flights between Montreal and Moncton, New Brunswick. [11] Since the early stages of operation the airline has been active in introducing new technology to its operation. Sky Regional was the first airline in Canada to adopt the Electronic Flight Bag (EFB). Each pilot at the company is issued an Apple iPad which is the platform for the EFB allowing crews to not only have quick access to flight plans and manuals but eliminate paper charts and numerous large manuals which previously would have been present on the flight deck.

Air Canada started to transfer its 15 Embraer E175 planes to SRA in April 2013 and completed the transfer in September 2013. [12] In the fall of 2015 SRA added an additional 5 E175 aircraft to its fleet. These aircraft were previously operated by Azul Brazilian Airlines.

SRA introduced a fleet of Embraer E175 jets in March 2013 to serve US destinations such as New York, Newark, Boston, Philadelphia, Chicago, and Dallas/Fort Worth. [12]

Between October and December 2015 the fleet of 20 was expanded to 25 after obtaining 5 additional Embraer E175s previously operated by Azul Brazilian Airlines. These aircraft were put into service in April 2016 allowing the airline to add routes to more US destination such as Denver International Airport, and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

In early 2017, SRA's fleet of 5 Bombardier Q400s were transferred to fellow Air Canada Express carrier Jazz Aviation with the last flight arriving into Montreal from Moncton on February 23. SRA received 5 additional E175s in early 2017. The first of the aircraft came into service on May 16 with the last going into service on July 1. These new aircraft features an extra 3 seats in business class for a total of 12 seats. The rest of the fleet were reconfigured by the end of 2017 to a 76-seat configuration.

In 2018, Brent Card was promoted to Vice-president Flight Operations.

On March 1, 2021, Air Canada announced that the airline was going to consolidate all regional flying under the Jazz banner thereby ending the affiliation between Sky Regional and Air Canada. The aircraft flown by Sky Regional, the Embraer E175, will be transferred to Jazz. [13] On March 30, 2021, Sky Regional operated its last flight from Newark, NJ to Toronto.

Atlantic Southeast Airlines (ASA) was an American airline based in the A-Tech Center in College Park, Georgia, flying to 144 destinations as a Delta Connection carrier on behalf of Delta Air Lines via a code sharing agreement and, as of February 2010, commenced service as a United Express carrier on behalf of United Airlines via a separate code sharing agreement. It was a wholly owned subsidiary of SkyWest, Inc. ASA operated nearly 900 flights each day. Its main hub was located at Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) which is also a hub for Delta. After a 2010 merger with ExpressJet, ASA adopted the ExpressJet name and branding in 2011.

SkyWest Airlines is an American regional airline headquartered in St. George, Utah, United States. SkyWest is paid to staff, operate and maintain aircraft used on flights that are scheduled, marketed and sold by a partner mainline airline. Shuttle America Corporation was an American regional airline based in Indianapolis, Indiana, USA. It fed United Airlines flights at Chicago O'Hare International Airport (ORD) and Houston Intercontinental Airport (IAH) under the United Express brand, as well as Delta Air Lines flights at Atlanta (ATL), New York-LaGuardia (LGA), and New York-JFK under the Delta Connection brand. Embraer E-Jet family Regional jet airliner family

The Embraer E-Jet family is a series of four-abreast narrow-body short- to medium-range twin-engine jet airliners, carrying 66 to 124 passengers, produced by Brazilian aerospace manufacturer Embraer. The aircraft family was first introduced at the Paris Air Show in 1999 and entered production in 2002. The series has been a commercial success primarily due to its ability to efficiently serve lower-demand routes while offering many of the same amenities and features of larger jets. The E-Jet family is used by mainline and regional airlines around the world and is particularly popular with regional airlines in the United States.

Republic Airways Inc. is a regional airline subsidiary of Republic Airways Holdings that operates service as American Eagle, Delta Connection, and United Express using a fleet of Embraer 170 and Embraer 175 regional jets. PAL Airlines is a Canadian regional airline with headquarters at St. John's International Airport in St John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. PAL operates scheduled passenger, cargo, air ambulance and charter services. PAL is the commercial airline arm of the PAL Group of Companies. In addition to its head office, it also has bases in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Happy Valley-Goose Bay, and Montreal. ExpressJet Airline of the United States

ExpressJet Airlines is a regional U.S. airline headquartered in College Park, Georgia. The company originally operated as a contracted codeshare partner, flying under the American Eagle, Delta Connection and United Express brands at various points in history. In September 2020, it exited that longstanding position in the fee-for-departure airline market and temporarily ceased all flying after the conclusion of a contract with its sole remaining mainline partner United Airlines. As of September 2021, ExpressJet has resumed operations as both an air charter provider and a regional airline under its own brand aha!—short for "Air-Hotel-Adventure." The brand's route structure is focused on the West Coast of the United States with a hub at Reno-Tahoe International Airport, and scheduled flights began on October 24, 2021.

Porter Airlines Canadian regional airline

Porter Airlines is a regional airline headquartered at Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport on the Toronto Islands in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Owned by Porter Aviation Holdings, formerly known as REGCO Holdings Inc., Porter operates regularly scheduled flights between Toronto and locations in Canada and the United States using Canadian-built Bombardier Q400 turboprop aircraft.

Business Express Airlines

Business Express Airlines, often referred to as Business Express or BizEX, was an American regional airline founded as Atlantic Air in 1982. In an effort to appeal to its predominantly business commuter clientele, the airline assumed the Business Express name in 1985. In 1986 Pilgrim Airlines, which itself had acquired NewAir about a year prior, was acquired by the airline. This opened the valuable New York and Washington, D.C. markets. Shortly thereafter, Business Express became one of Delta Air Lines's first Delta Connection carriers, along with Atlantic Southeast Airlines, Comair and SkyWest Airlines. The company slogan was Fly BizEx Jets!

Delta Connection is a regional airline brand name for Delta Air Lines, under which a number of individually owned regional airlines primarily operate short- and medium-haul routes. Mainline major air carriers often use regional airlines to operate services via code sharing agreements in order to increase frequencies in addition to serving routes that would not sustain larger aircraft as well as for other competitive or operational reasons.
