Naveen Patnaik was elected as chief minister of Odisha for the third time in 2009 after securing a landslide victory in 2009 Odisha Legislative Assembly election. The elections were held in the state in two phases coinciding with 2009 Indian general election. The results were declared on 16 May 2009. Biju Janata Dal secured 103 seats out of 147 in the fourteenth Odisha Legislative Assembly, becoming the first ever regional party to come to power on its own in the state. The ministry was informally known as Naveen 3.0.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik along with 11 Cabinet Ministers and 9 Minister of State with Independent Charges were administered the oath of office and secrecy by Governor Murlidhar Chandrakant Bhandare at the Raj Bhavan, Bhubaneswar on 21 May 2009. [1] [2]

Second Cabinet reshuffle took place on 2 August 2012 on the backdrop of May 29 2012 political coup against Chief Minister by now expelled senior party leader & Rajya Sabha member Pyarimohan Mohapatra. [5] [6]

Naveen Patnaik is an Indian politician, writer and former Chief Minister of Odisha who served as the 14th Chief Minister of Odisha from 5 March 2000 to 12 June 2024. His 24-year reign is the second longest for a chief minister of any Indian state, after Pawan Kumar Chamling of Sikkim. He is the first president of the Biju Janata Dal since 1997. He served as the Union Minister of Steel and Mines from 1998 to 2000 and a member of the Lok Sabha from Aska from 1997 to 2000.
Bijayananda Patnaik was an Indian politician and aviator. He served as the 3rd Chief Minister of the State of Odisha from 1961 to 1963 and from 1990 to 1995. He was also the 14th Steel and mines and 1st Coal Union Minister of India from 1979 to 1980 and from 1977 to 1979 and a member of Lok Sabha from Kendrapara from 1977 to 1985. He is the father of Naveen Patnaik, who was the Former CM of Odisha.
The Karan or Karana is a community found in the state of Odisha in India. The post of Karana used to be a professional designation that was occupied by literate peoples. They held Karanam posts in some parts of Andhra Pradesh, where they speak Odia and played a similar role in Odisha to that of the Kayasthas of West Bengal and Bihar. In the social hierarchy of Odisha they rank next to Brahmins. They exclusively served the ruling powers as their ministers, advisors, governors, military commanders, record keepers and dewans. They owned most Zamindaris in Odisha. They have the highest literacy caste-wise and are highly prosperous. Today they are a politically dominant community and have reigned over the politics of Odisha for 50 years.
Dharmendra Pradhan is an Indian politician who is serving as Union Minister of Education since 2021. He also served as Minister of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship in the Government of India from 2021 to 2024. An alumnus of Talcher Autonomous College and Utkal University, he has also been the Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas and the Minister of Steel.
