This is a timeline of the War in Donbass , for November 2016. The timeline follows an ongoing conflict between Ukraine and anti-government pro-Russian separatists supported by Russian troops [1] in the Donbass region in eastern Ukraine.
The ATO HQ reported in the morning that pro-Russian troops had opened fire on 36 occasions on Ukrainian positions the previous day, including on 17 occasions in the region of Mariupol, on 10 occasions in the surroundings of Donetsk city, and on 9 occasions in Luhansk region. [2] [3] [4] The spokesman of the Presidential Administration on issues related to ATO, Oleksandr Motuzyanyk, reported at noon no casualties in the Donbass region on 31 October. [5]
According to the information published by the ATO HQ on their Facebook page in the evening, as of 6:00 pm pro-Russian forces had opened fire on Ukrainian positions on 24 occasions. Around Donetsk city and Horlivka, the Ukrainian strongholds of Avdiivka and Luhanske came under heavy machine gun, rocket propelled grenade and 82 mm mortar fire. The rebels also fired small arms, heavy machine gun and rocket launchers at Ukrainian troops in Krasnohorivka. In the region of Mariupol, pro-Russian armoured fighting vehicles engaged Ukrainian redoubts at Shyrokyne, which also became the target of 82 mm and 120 mm mortars. Mortar volleys of different caliber also landed in Lebedynske, Vodiane and Mykhailivka. The separatists pounded Pavlopil with small arms, heavy machine gun and rocket launchers. In the northern front, rocket propelled grenades landed in Lopaskyne and Stanytsia Luhanska. Pro-Russian forces shelled Krymske with 152 mm self-propelled artillery. [6]
The Ukrainian military reported 37 violations of the ceasefire by pro-Russian forces over the past 24 hours, including 27 in the region of Mariupol, seven around Donetsk city and three in the region of Luhansk. [7] Rebel troops attempting an assault on Ukrainian positions at Avdiivka were beaten off by the Ukrainian defenders during last night. [8] [9] The spokesman of the Presidential Administration on issues related to ATO reported at noon that two Ukrainian servicemen were killed and five others wounded in action in the Donbass region on the first day of November. Ukrainian president Petro Poroshenko announced that henceforth no mobilized serviceman would be present on the frontline. [14]

Rebel forces fired small arms and grenade launchers at Novozvanivka, Syze and Trokhizbenka, in the northern section of the demarcation line. [22]

Around Donetsk city, separatist forces fired heavy machine guns and rocket launchers at Ukrainian troops in Avdiivka, while 82 mm mortars landed in Marinka and pro-Russian armoured fighting vehicles attacked Ukrainian redoubts at Krasnohorivka. In the area of Horlivka, 82 mm mortar volleys landed in zaitseve, and armoured fighting vehicles shelled Ukrainian redoubts at Luhanske, which was also struck by rocket propelled grenades and mortar rounds. In the northern sector of the demarcation line, heavy machine gun fire was reported in the Ukrainian stronghold of Stanytsia Luhanska. Novooleksandrivka and Krymske were hit by rocket propelled grenades. Ukrainian positions at Novooleksandrivka were also struck by antitank guided missiles. [46]

In the northern section of the demarcation line, pro-Russian armoured fighting vehicles, supported by small arms, rocket launchers and antiaircraft artillery, attacked Ukrainian troops deployed at Novozvanivka, Novotoshkivske, Novooleksandrivka and Krymske.
