The 2002 Tunbridge Wells Council election took place on 2 May 2002 to elect members of Tunbridge Wells Borough Council in Kent, England. The whole council was up for election with boundary changes since the last election in 2000. [1] The Conservative party stayed in overall control of the council. [2]

Borough status in the United Kingdom is granted by royal charter to local government districts in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. The status is purely honorary, and does not give any additional powers to the council or inhabitants of the district. In Scotland, similarly chartered communities were known as royal burghs, although the status is no longer granted.
