Twin Falls High School is a public secondary school in Twin Falls, Idaho, one of two traditional high schools operated by the Twin Falls School District #411. [4]

School history

Twin Falls High School was founded in 1907. Citizens passed a bond in 1909 to construct the high school building and a supplemental bond in 1911 to complete construction. Formal dedication of the original high school, located on Shoshone Street next to the Twin Falls County Courthouse, occurred in February 1912.

The current Twin Falls High School on Filer Avenue opened in September 1954. The original high school building became Twin Falls Junior High School (now O'Leary Middle School). The original building was condemned and torn down in the early 1980s after O'Leary moved to a new location in 1979.

Athletics

Until 2009, TFHS was among the largest high schools in the state, classified as 5A (enrollment over 1,280 students) by the IHSAA. With the opening of Canyon Ridge High School in western Twin Falls in August 2009, both schools were classified as 4A (four-year enrollment between 640 and 1,279). [5] A crosstown rivalry between TFHS and CRHS has since developed. [6]

With the move to down to 4A in 2009, TFHS also changed conferences. It is currently a member of the Great Basin (West) Conference, competing against Canyon Ridge, Burley, Jerome, Minico, and Wood River, all located in south central Idaho's Magic Valley. [7]

Twin Falls won the 5A state championship in football in 2004 and in boys' basketball in 2006. After dropping to Class 4A, the Bruins won the boys' state basketball championship in 2010, and the state baseball championship in 2011 [8] and 2014. [9]

The water polo team and bowling team won state championships in 2007. The boys' cross country has won three state titles in a row since 2007, and both golf teams have won many state titles, as well. The Bruin track team won many championships in the 1970s and continue to be a state power. The last state team track championship was in 1997. The boys' soccer team became state champions in 1992, only three years after the team was founded.

Twin Falls High School's final year as the only regular public high school in Twin Falls was 2008–09. The year also represented the final year Twin Falls High School did not include 9th grade. Beginning in August 2009, both Twin Falls and Canyon Ridge included grades 9 through 12. Twin Falls High School draws its students from the eastern half of the city. [18]

Opened 61 years ago in 1963, the school's campus is between Caldwell and Lake Lowell on the corner of Montana and Homedale roads. The current principal is Shane Carson. The school colors are brown and gold to represent the school's rich agricultural tradition, and its mascot is a falcon.

Bonneville High School is a four-year public secondary school near Idaho Falls, Idaho. Northeast of the city, it opened in 1951 and is the original high school of the Bonneville Joint School District #93, which consolidated ten smaller districts east of Idaho Falls. The original building for high school was turned into a junior high in 1977 when the current Bonneville High School was built. A second traditional high school in the district opened in 1992, Hillcrest in Ammon. In 2018 a third high school was opened, Thunder Ridge. The school colors are green and gold and the mascot is a bee. Current enrollment is approximately 1,400. In 1950 the vote was put forward to bring together 10 little schools, some of them were Iona, Lincoln, Ammon, and Ucon. It passed however there was not a school for them to attend. The school that had the largest building at the time was Ammon so the high school students would attend there until a building could be built. The first class attended 1951 - 1952. As with some of the other new schools, the first graduating class could nominate the colors and mascot. The colors of a favorite football team was nominated, Green Bay Packers. In 1957 the "new" high school was built. It is the current Rocky Mountain Middle School. The students outgrew the high school and did split sessions in the 1970s while a new high school was being built next door. The first class to graduate from the current building was 1978.

Jerome High School is a four-year public high school located in Jerome, Idaho, the only traditional high school operated by the Jerome Joint School District #261. The school colors are black and orange and the mascot is a tiger.

Madison High School is a three-year public secondary school in Rexburg, Idaho, the county seat of Madison County. It is the only traditional high school in the Madison School District #321, which includes Rexburg and the majority of the county. The school colors are red, white, and gray, and the mascot is a bobcat.

Lakeland High School is a four-year public secondary school in Rathdrum, Idaho, one of two traditional high schools in the Lakeland Joint School District #272 of northern Kootenai County. The current campus opened in 1979 as a senior high school(grades 10–12); The two high schools of Rathdrum and Spirit Lake camp together to form Lakeland High School in the fall of 1961. The campus located at the now Lakeland Middle School was built in 1962 and was moved into as soon as it was completed. In 1979, that building became the junior high school. The school colors are green and gold and the mascot is a hawk. Even though Rathdrum is a small city, many people attend Lakeland High School.

Post Falls High School is a public secondary school in located in Post Falls, Idaho. Established in 1912, the current campus of PFHS opened 24 years ago in 2000; it is the only traditional high school in the Post Falls School District. After four failed bond attempts, the $18 million levy passed by two votes in March 1998. The school colors are black and orange and the mascot is a Trojan.
