According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 35.3 square miles (91.4 km2), of which, 34.8 square miles (90.1 km2) of it is land and 0.5 square miles (1.3 km2) of it (1.47%) is water.

As of the census [2] of 2000, there were 1,320 people, 426 households, and 359 families residing in the town. The population density was 37.9 inhabitants per square mile (14.6/km2). There were 437 housing units at an average density of 12.6 per square mile (4.9/km2). The racial makeup of the town was 98.94% White, 0.23% African American, 0.08% Native American, 0.38% Asian, and 0.38% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.45% of the population.
There were 426 households, out of which 46.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 76.5% were married couples living together, 4.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 15.7% were non-families. 10.3% of all households were made up of individuals, and 2.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.10 and the average family size was 3.38.
