Whitacre is an unincorporated community in northern Frederick County, Virginia, United States. Whitacre lies on the old Braddock Road on the eastern flanks of Timber Ridge between Good and Cross Junction. Whitacre is located north of Lake Holiday. The community takes its name from the Whitacre family that owned land in its vicinity.
Mark Edward Whitacre is an American business executive who came to public attention in 1995 when, as president of the Decatur, Illinois-based BioProducts Division at Archer Daniels Midland (ADM), he became the highest-level corporate executive in U.S. history to become a Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) whistleblower. For three years (1992–95), Whitacre acted as a cooperating witness for the FBI, which was investigating ADM for price fixing. In the late 1990s Whitacre was sentenced to nine years in federal prison for embezzling $9.5 million from ADM at the same time he was assisting the federal price-fixing investigation.

Nether Whitacre is a small village and larger rural civil parish in North Warwickshire, Warwickshire, England.
Over Whitacre is village in North Warwickshire containing the hamlets of Botts Green, Furnace End and Monwode Lea in the North Warwickshire district of the county of Warwickshire in England. The population of the village at the 2011 census was 411. It is located near other villages, Nether Whitacre and Whitacre Heath, although Whitacre heath is actually the heath of Nether Whitacre and not a separate parish. The nearby hamlet of Furnace End probably derives its name from iron smelting furnaces owned by the Jennens of Nether Whitacre. The village today is mainly residential and agricultural, but there is some light industry.

The lysine price-fixing conspiracy was an organized effort during the mid-1990s to raise the price of the animal feed additive lysine. It involved five companies that had commercialized high-tech fermentation technologies, including American company Archer Daniels Midland (ADM), Japanese companies Ajinomoto and Kyowa Hakko Kogyo, and Korean companies Sewon America Inc. and Cheil Jedang Ltd. A criminal investigation resulted in fines and three-year prison sentences for three executives of ADM who colluded with the other companies to fix prices. The foreign companies settled with the United States Department of Justice Antitrust Division in September through December 1996. Each firm and four executives from the Asian firms pleaded guilty as part of a plea bargain to aid in further investigation against ADM. The cartel had been able to raise lysine prices 70% within their first nine months of cooperation.
The Edward E. Whitacre Jr. College of Engineering is the college of engineering at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas. The engineering program has existed at Texas Tech University since 1925. Additionally, the Whitacre College of Engineering administers graduate engineering degree programs at the university's campus in Amarillo, Texas. Many of the college's degree programs are accredited by ABET. The Whitacre College of Engineering is the first and, presently, only school in the world to offer a doctor of philosophy degree in wind science and engineering.
Furnace End is a large hamlet in the civil parish of Over Whitacre, and in the North Warwickshire district of Warwickshire, England. It is on the B4114 where the road intersects with the B4098 approximately midway between the market towns of Coleshill and Atherstone. The hamlet is believed to have acquired its name because of the iron smelting furnaces located there, which were owned by the Jennens family of nearby Nether Whitacre. Population statistics are part of Over Whitacre parish. Nearby settlements include Whitacre Heath, Shustoke, Kingsbury and Fillongley.

Lux Aurumque is a choral composition in one movement by Eric Whitacre. It is a Christmas piece based on a Latin poem of the same name, which translates as "Light, warm and heavy as pure gold, and the angels sing softly to the new born babe". In 2000, Whitacre set a short Latin text for mixed choir a cappella. In 2005, he wrote an arrangement for wind ensemble. The choral version became known through Whitacre's project Virtual Choir in 2009. The piece is also available for men's choir. A performance takes about four minutes.
Lewis County High School was created in 1966 with the consolidation of Weston High School, Jane Lew High School and Walkersville High School in Lewis County, West Virginia. The original Lewis County High School was located on Court Street in Weston, West Virginia. The Weston Colored School's one high school student was absorbed into Weston High in 1954 after the historic Brown v. Board of Education Supreme Court decision. Lewis County High moved to its present location, just south of Weston, in 1994. The original Lewis County High now serves as Robert L. Bland Middle School.
