The English-American hard rock band Whitesnake have released thirteen studio albums, nine live albums, twelve compilation albums, three box sets, two extended plays (EPs), 40 singles, nine video albums and 29 music videos. Formed in London in 1978 by vocalist David Coverdale, the band originally featured guitarists Micky Moody and Bernie Marsden, bassist Neil Murray, keyboardist Peter Solley and drummer Dave Dowle. [1] The group's debut EP Snakebite was released in June 1978 and reached number 61 on the UK Singles Chart. [2] After replacing Solley with Jon Lord, [1] the band released their debut full-length album Trouble later in the year, which reached number 50 on the UK Albums Chart. [3] 1979's Lovehunter reached number 29 on the chart. [3] Lead single "Long Way from Home" charted at number 55. [2]
Dowle was replaced by Ian Paice after the release of Lovehunter, [4] and in 1980 Whitesnake reached the UK top ten for the first time with Ready an' Willing , which peaked at number 6 and was certified gold by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI). [3] [5] The album was also the band's first to register on the US Billboard 200, reaching number 90. [6] The album's lead single "Fool for Your Loving" reached number 13 on the UK Singles Chart. [2] The group's first live release, Live... in the Heart of the City , reached number 5 on the UK Albums Chart and was certified platinum by the BPI. [3] [5] 1981's Come an' Get It and 1982's Saints & Sinners also both reached the UK top ten, with the former reaching a peak of number 2 (the band's highest to date). [3] Three singles from across the two albums reached the UK Singles Chart top 40. [2]
After a brief hiatus and several lineup changes, Whitesnake resurfaced in 1984 with Slide It In , which was their first album to reach the US top 40. [6] It was also the band's first release to be certified by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), reaching double platinum status. [7] 1987's Whitesnake was even more successful, reaching number 2 on the Billboard 200, [6] number 5 on the Canadian Albums Chart, and the top ten in several other regions. The album was certified eight times platinum by the RIAA, [7] five times platinum by Music Canada, [8] and platinum by the BPI. [5] The single "Here I Go Again" topped the Billboard Hot 100 and the Canadian Singles Chart, [9] as well as reaching the top ten of the UK Singles Chart. [2] Its follow-up "Is This Love" reached number 2 on the Hot 100 and number 9 in the UK. [9] [2] The band's 1989 release Slip of the Tongue was the band's only other album to reach the US top ten, [6] and the last to be certified by the RIAA (reaching platinum status). [7]
Whitesnake broke up in 1991. Three years later, Greatest Hits was released as the band's first compilation album, reaching number 4 on the UK Albums Chart and being certified gold by the BPI. [3] [5] The band returned with Restless Heart in 1997, which peaked at number 34 in the UK. [3] In late 2002 the band returned on a permanent basis. The 2003 compilation Best of Whitesnake reached number 44 in the UK and was certified gold by the BPI, [3] [5] while the 2006 video release Live... in the Still of the Night reached number 2 on the UK Music Video Chart and was also certified gold. [10] [5] Whitesnake's tenth studio album Good to Be Bad was released in 2008, reaching number 7 in the UK and number 62 in the US. [3] [6] In 2011, the band reached number 33 with Forevermore and number 81 with Live at Donington 1990 , in 2013 they reached number 67 with Made in Japan , and in 2015 they reached number 18 with The Purple Album . [3] In 2019 was released band's thirteenth studio album Flesh & Blood which reached number 7 on the UK charts. [3] Next year and 2021 was characterized by the release of musically distinct compilation trilogy of white's The Rock Album , red's Love Songs and blue's The Blues Album , all reaching at least number 2 on the UK Rock & Metal Albums Chart. Greatest Hits is a compilation album by the British rock band Queen, released worldwide on 26 October 1981. The album consisted of Queen's biggest hits since their first chart appearance in 1974 with "Seven Seas of Rhye", up to their 1980 hit "Flash". There was no universal track listing or cover art for the album, and each territory's tracks were dependent on what singles had been released there and which were successful. In 1992, the US version of the album Classic Queen was released following the band's rekindled popularity in the nation.
The discography of Swedish pop music group ABBA consists of nine studio albums, two live albums, seven compilation albums, four box sets, five video albums, 50 singles, and 43 music videos. To date, ABBA have sold more than 150 million records worldwide becoming one of the best-selling music artists in history. They have scored 9 No. 1 singles and 10 No. 1 albums in the UK, becoming the most successful Swedish act of all time on the Official Charts.
All Rise is the debut studio album by English boy band Blue, released on 26 November 2001 in the United Kingdom. It peaked at number one on the UK Albums Chart and was certified 4× Platinum in the UK. The album spent 63 weeks on the UK top 75 Albums chart.
Slide It In is the sixth studio album by English rock band Whitesnake. Originally released on 30 January 1984 in Europe, by Liberty/EMI, it was remixed for the American market, later issued on 16 April 1984 in North America by Geffen. In Japan, it was issued a "European" Mix release date on 23 March 1984, and an "American" remix on 21 December 1984 by CBS/Sony. Widely regarded as a moderate success, it helped open the American market to the band's sound and breakthrough throughout the later 1980s. Historically, it was the final Whitesnake recording to use the band's original "snake" logo.
Restless Heart is the ninth studio album by English hard rock band Whitesnake, released by EMI on 26 March 1997 in Japan and 26 May in Europe. It was produced by the band's vocalist David Coverdale and originally conceived as a solo album. However, EMI pressured him into releasing the record under the moniker "David Coverdale & Whitesnake". Musically Restless Heart features a more subdued sound compared to Whitesnake's previous two albums. It is also the only full-length Whitesnake studio album to feature guitarist Adrian Vandenberg throughout, despite having been a member of the group since 1987.
"Hard to Say I'm Sorry" is a 1982 power ballad by American rock band Chicago. It was written by bassist Peter Cetera, who also sang the lead vocals on the track, and producer David Foster. It was released on May 17, 1982, as the lead single from the album Chicago 16. On September 11 of that year, it reached No. 1 for two weeks on the Billboard Hot 100. It was the group's second No. 1 single. It was their first top 50 hit since "No Tell Lover" in 1978 and it spent twelve weeks in the top 5 of the Billboard Hot 100. The single was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal, and was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) in September of the same year. Songwriter Cetera, a member of the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP), won an ASCAP Pop Music Award for the song in the category, Most Performed Songs.
The English rock band Oasis have released seven studio albums, two live albums, five compilation albums, six video albums, one extended play, twenty seven singles which includes one double single, nineteen promotional singles and thirty-six music videos. As of 2024, the band has sold over 75 million records worldwide, making them one of the best-selling music artists of all time and been named by Guinness World Records as the most successful act in the United Kingdom between the years 1995 and 2005. Oasis had 22 consecutive UK top 10 hits between 1994 and 2008. Oasis was formed in 1991 by vocalist Liam Gallagher, guitarist Paul "Bonehead" Arthurs, bassist Paul "Guigsy" McGuigan and drummer Tony McCarroll – they were later joined by guitarist and songwriter Noel Gallagher. The band signed to Creation Records in May 1993 and released their debut single "Supersonic" the following year; it peaked at number 31 in the United Kingdom. Follow-up singles "Shakermaker" and "Live Forever" became UK top 15 hits, with the latter also attaining success in the United States. Definitely Maybe, the band's debut studio album, topped the UK Albums Chart and went on to be certified nine times platinum by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI).
The English new wave/pop rock band Tears for Fears have released seven studio albums, along with numerous singles, compilations and videos.
