The Yamaha Tricity is a tilting three-wheeler motor scooter made by Yamaha Motor Company. It is part of Yamaha's LMW (Leaning Multi Wheel) offering along with the Niken.
Three Tricity models have been developed: 125, 155, and 300cc models.
The 125 model was first introduced in Thai markets on April, 2014 and then in Japanese markets in September 2014. [2] [3] The vehicle was also made available in other Asian countries along with Australia and New Zealand. The scooter reached the European market in 2015.
The 155 was introduced to Europe in September 2016 [4]
A second generation, the 300 model was introduced in the 2019. The new model addressed the criticized areas of the first model. It had a larger engine and allowed drivers to ride with a car license in most countries. The improvements led to the doubling of the price, when compared to the 125 model.
The Tricity was developed by the Yamaha development team in cooperation with race engineer Kazuhisa Takano. The goal was to create an easy to ride machine to attract everyday commuters who were traveling by car, but who were considering a switch to a motorcycle. The Tricity is Yamaha's first three-wheeler, and was developed due to success of the Piaggio MP3.
Due to patent rights, Yamaha was not able to use the MP3's car-like suspension, opting for a simpler double fork system. This brought the two front wheels too close together for the Tricity to be registered as a three-wheeler. This meant riders could not ride on a car license under general EU regulation. This caused the Tricity to miss out on the market of car license drivers looking for a motorcycle, except those that allow a 125cc bike to be ridden on a car license.
Nevertheless, Yamaha proceeded with this vehicle's design and has produced several models that are sold in different markets around the world. The first model was released with UBS brakes, and in 2015 it was upgraded with optional ABS braking. The 2016 model is identical to the previous one, but a 155cc version was displayed at the 2016 Osaka motorcycle show along with the promotional offer "Try Tri Before You Buy Tri". In all EU countries a 155cc model will require a motorcycle license, but will be allowed to drive on all European roads.
Online reviews of the Tricity are generally positive. The model is credited for its stability and ability to stay untroubled by poor road surfaces. As well as its brakes, which are considered unusually good for a 125cc bike. Some reviewers have given negative feedback for the engine, which they consider to be underpowered and a bit noisy with too frequent service intervals.
So far, the Tricity has not met the success Yamaha was hoping for. It failed in the Thailand market and also was not very successful in Japan. It sold better in the Philippines, where 125cc or less bikes have a larger part of the motorcycle market. Sources differ when it comes to Europe: some describe it as a failure, others as a success. Yamaha dealers in Europe have reported the model as failing to attract novice riders, but instead garnering interest among older riders stepping down.

Vespa is an Italian luxury brand of scooters and mopeds manufactured by Piaggio. The name means wasp in Italian. The Vespa has evolved from a single model motor scooter manufactured in 1946 by Piaggio & Co. S.p.A. of Pontedera, Italy to a full line of scooters and one of seven companies today owned by Piaggio.

A tilting three-wheeler, tilting trike, leaning trike, or even just tilter, is a three-wheeled vehicle and usually a narrow-track vehicle whose body and or wheels tilt in the direction of a turn. Such vehicles can corner without rolling over despite having a narrow axle track because they can balance some or all of the roll moment caused by centripetal acceleration with an opposite roll moment caused by gravity, as bicycles and motorcycles do. This also reduces the lateral acceleration experienced by the rider, which some find more comfortable than the alternative. The narrow profile can result in reduced aerodynamic drag and increased fuel efficiency. These types of vehicles have also been described as "man-wide vehicles" (MWV).

The BMW C1 is an enclosed scooter made by Bertone for BMW. Compared to a conventional scooter, the C1 offered extra safety features and protection from the elements. The rider would sit in a car-type seat and adopt a feet-forward posture. Introduced in 2000, it was available throughout Europe, but sales were disappointing and the C1 was discontinued in 2002. In 2009 the C1-E electric version was presented as a concept.

Beta is an Italian motorcycle manufacturer, specialising in off-road motorcycles. Beta is best known for their popular observed trials bikes. In 2005, they launched a range of enduro motorcycles using KTM engines. In 2010 they launched the new RR series, with a new engine made in-house. The Yamaha TMAX series of maxi-scooters has been manufactured by Yamaha Motor Company for the European market since its debut at July 2000 press events in Naples, Italy and Iwata, Japan, combining motorcycle performance with the convenience and flexibility for commuting of a scooter.
A scooter is a motorcycle with an underbone or step-through frame, a seat, a transmission that shifts without the operator having to operate a clutch lever, a platform for the rider's feet, and with a method of operation that emphasizes comfort and fuel economy. Elements of scooter design were present in some of the earliest motorcycles, and motor scooters have been made since at least 1914. More recently, scooters have evolved to include scooters exceeding 250cc classified as Maxi-scooters.
The Yamaha YA-1 is the first motorcycle produced by the Yamaha Motor Company. It was made from 1955 to 1958. This was also the first vehicle in Japan to have a primary kick start system. The Society of Automotive Engineers of Japan(in Japanese), includes the 1955 Yamaha 125YA-1 as one of their 240 Landmarks of Japanese Automotive Technology.
The Yamaha Tesseract was a hybrid electric concept vehicle introduced by Yamaha at the 2007 Tokyo Motor Show. Although the Tesseract is technically a quadricycle, Yamaha has called it "The 4-Wheeled Motorcycle" because it has a frontal profile nearly as narrow as a conventional motorcycle and because it has a tilting wheel suspension that allows it to bank like a motorcycle. This suspension, which Yamaha refers to as a "Dual Scythe Suspension", is similar to that of the 4MC concept vehicle. Yamaha experienced delays in its own patent filings with the European Patent Office as a result of patents held by the 4MC's inventor, Mike Shotter.
The Yamaha Niken is a 845 cc tilting three-wheeler motorcycle, manufactured since 2018 by Yamaha Motor and sold worldwide.
The Honda Mobile Power Pack (MPP) is an exchangeable lithium-ion battery manufactured by Honda and Panasonic, intended to store power for personal mobility vehicles, including electric motorcycles and scooters. It was introduced at the 2017 Tokyo Auto Show to power the Honda PCX Electric and has since been adopted by the Swappable Battery Motorcycle Consortium formed by many motorcycle and scooter manufacturers, including Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki, and Yamaha.
