Iceland's defence forces consist of the Icelandic Coast Guard, which patrols Icelandic waters and monitors its airspace, and other services such as the National Commissioner's National Security and Special Forces Units. Iceland maintains no standing army, the only NATO member for which this is the case.

Hermann Gunnarsson commonly referred to by his nickname, Hemmi Gunn, was an Icelandic television and radio personality, performer and former football and handball player at an international level. Hermann is known as one of Iceland's greats both in football and handball. He also played basketball at club level, but never played a national game in that sport.
Rás 1 is an Icelandic radio station belonging to and operated by Ríkisútvarpið (RÚV), Iceland's national public service broadcaster. Broadcast throughout Iceland on FM, via satellite, DVB and also 189 kHz longwave, it is currently among the country's most listened-to radio stations.
Pétur Karl Guðmundsson is an Icelandic former professional basketball player and coach from Reykjavík. Standing 2.18 m (7'2"), weighing 118 kg (260 lb) and playing the center position, Pétur was the first Icelander and one of the first European players ever to play in National Basketball Association (NBA). He was also a member of the Icelandic national basketball team from 1978 to 1992 but missed several years due to FIBA rules banning professional players from playing for national teams. In 2001, he was named the Icelandic Basketball Player of the 20th century by the Icelandic Basketball Association. In 2015, he was inducted in to the National Olympic and Sports Association of Iceland Hall of Fame.
Megan Marie Mahoney is an American former professional basketball player. During her 14-year career, Mahoney won the Italian championship three times, in 2009, 2010 and 2012, and the Icelandic championship in 2006. In 2015, she won the EuroCup with ESB Villeneuve-d'Ascq. Mahoney was drafted by the Connecticut Sun in 2005 and played in the WNBA from 2006 to 2007.
Ólafur Þór Gunnarsson is a Icelandic former footballer. He played the majority of his career in Iceland and capped for the Icelandic national team against Brazil in 2002. He played football for Flagler College in the United States, where he was a three-time NAIA All-American, All-Region XIV and All-Florida Sun Conference selection. In 2016, he was inducted into the schools hall of fame.
Northeast is one of the six multi-member constituencies of the Althing, the national legislature of Iceland. The constituency was established as Northeastern in 1959 following the nationwide extension of proportional representation for elections to the Althing. It was renamed Northeast in 2003 when most of the Eastern constituency was merged into the Northeastern constituency following the re-organisation of constituencies across Iceland. Northeast consists of the regions of Eastern and Northeastern. The constituency currently elects nine of the 63 members of the Althing using the open party-list proportional representation electoral system. At the 2021 parliamentary election it had 29,847 registered electors.

Northwest consists of the regions of Northwestern, Western and Westfjords. The constituency currently elects seven of the 63 members of the Althing using the open party-list proportional representation electoral system. At the 2021 parliamentary election it had 21,541 registered electors.

The constituency was established as Southern in 1959 following the nationwide extension of proportional representation for elections to the Althing. It was renamed South in 2003 when parts of Eastern and Reykjanes constituencies were merged into the Southern constituency following the re-organisation of constituencies across Iceland. South consists of the Southern and Southern Peninsula regions. The constituency currently elects nine of the 63 members of the Althing using the open party-list proportional representation electoral system. At the 2021 parliamentary election it had 38,424 registered electors.

The constituency was established as Reykjanes in 1959 following the nationwide extension of proportional representation for elections to the Althing. It was renamed Southwest in 2003 when the Reykjanes area of constituency was merged into the Southern constituency following the re-organisation of constituencies across Iceland. Southwest is conterminous with the Capital region but excludes Reykjavík Municipality which has its own constituencies. The constituency currently elects 11 of the 63 members of the Althing using the open party-list proportional representation electoral system. At the 2021 parliamentary election it had 73,699 registered electors.
Glímufélagið Ármann is a multi-sports club in Reykjavík, Iceland. It was founded on 15 December 1888 in Reykjavík as an Icelandic wrestling team. Today it has departments in basketball, gymnastics, judo, power lifting, swimming, skiing, taekwondo and track & field.
Irreligion in Iceland is prevalent, with approximately 10% of the population identifying as "convinced atheists" and a further 30% identifying as non-religious (atheist). Since the 20th century, irreligion has seen steady growth.
Freyr Alexandersson is an Icelandic football coach and former player who is currently the manager of the Danish Superliga club Lyngby Boldklub. He was manager of the Icelandic women's national football team from 2013 to 2018.
Líf, also known as TF-LÍF, is an Aérospatiale AS-332L1 Super Puma helicopter used by the Icelandic Coast Guard. It is named after Líf, the only woman foretold to survive the events of Ragnarök from Norse mythology, and is the first Coast Guard aircraft to bear the name. It is the longest serving helicopter in the history of the ICG and gained national fame when it rescued 39 sailors in three separate incidents during a six-day period in March 1997.
Reykjavík was one of the multi-member constituencies of the Althing, the national legislature of Iceland. The constituency was established in 1844 when the Althing was converted into a consultative assembly. It was abolished in 2003 when the constituency was split into two constituencies following the re-organisation of constituencies across Iceland. Reykjavík was conterminous with the municipality of Reykjavík.
