Albert Sigurður Guðmundsson was an Icelandic professional footballer who played for, amongst others, Rangers, Arsenal, FC Nancy and A.C. Milan. After retiring from his sporting career he became a politician and was a member of Alþingi for 15 years, serving as Minister of Finance of Iceland and Minister of Industry.

Þórhildur Þorleifsdóttir is an Icelandic theater, opera, film and television director, actress, dancer, choreographer and politician. She was the artistic director of the Reykjavik City Theatre from 1996 to 2000. She was a member of Alþingi from 1987 to 1991, representing The Women's List.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Southwest (Althing constituency)</span> Constituency of the Althing, the national legislature of Iceland

Southwest is one of the six multi-member constituencies of the Althing, the national legislature of Iceland. The constituency was established as Reykjanes in 1959 following the nationwide extension of proportional representation for elections to the Althing. It was renamed Southwest in 2003 when the Reykjanes area of constituency was merged into the Southern constituency following the re-organisation of constituencies across Iceland. Southwest is conterminous with the Capital region but excludes Reykjavík Municipality which has its own constituencies. The constituency currently elects 11 of the 63 members of the Althing using the open party-list proportional representation electoral system. At the 2021 parliamentary election it had 73,699 registered electors.

Guðmundur Ívarsson Guðmundsson was an Icelandic politician and former minister. He was the Minister of Finance of Iceland from 1958 to 1959. He was also a diplomat who served as ambassador to the United Kingdom, to Spain and Portugal, to Nigeria (1971), to the United States, to Sweden and to Belgium, Luxembourg, the European Union and NATO (1977-1979).

Þorsteinn Víglundsson is an Icelandic politician who served as Member of Parliament for the Reform Party (Viðreisn) in the Althing. He served as Iceland's Minister of Social Affairs and Equality in 2017, and under his leadership, a bill of law was passed by the Icelandic Parliament (Althingi) with a vast majority on 1 June 2017 and came into force on 1 January 2018. Companies and institutions employing 25 or more workers, on an annual basis, are required to obtain equal pay certification of their equal pay systems and the implementation thereof. The purpose of this obligatory certification is to enforce the current legislation prohibiting discriminatory practices based on gender and requiring women and men working for the same employer to be paid equal wages and enjoy equal terms of employment for the same jobs or jobs of equal value.

Inga Sæland is an Icelandic law graduate and politician who is the founder and current leader of the People's Party.

Jónas Kristjánsson was an Icelandic writer, newspaper journalist and editor. He was one of the most influential people in the Icelandic newspaper history during the second half of the 20th century and was one of the strongest spokespersons for moving the newspapers publications away from the political parties.

Western was one of the multi-member constituencies of the Althing, the national legislature of Iceland. The constituency was established in 1959 following the nationwide extension of proportional representation for elections to the Althing. It was abolished in 2003 when the constituency was merged into the Northwestern constituency following the re-organisation of constituencies across Iceland. Western was conterminous with the Western region.
