Reykjavík South is one of the six multi-member constituencies of the Althing, the national legislature of Iceland. The constituency was established in 2003 when the existing Reykjavík constituency was split into two. The constituency currently elects nine of the 63 members of the Althing using the open party-list proportional representation electoral system. At the 2021 parliamentary election it had 45,716 registered electors.
Northeast is one of the six multi-member constituencies of the Althing, the national legislature of Iceland. The constituency was established as Northeastern in 1959 following the nationwide extension of proportional representation for elections to the Althing. It was renamed Northeast in 2003 when most of the Eastern constituency was merged into the Northeastern constituency following the re-organisation of constituencies across Iceland. Northeast consists of the regions of Eastern and Northeastern. The constituency currently elects nine of the 63 members of the Althing using the open party-list proportional representation electoral system. At the 2021 parliamentary election it had 29,847 registered electors.

The constituency was established as Southern in 1959 following the nationwide extension of proportional representation for elections to the Althing. It was renamed South in 2003 when parts of Eastern and Reykjanes constituencies were merged into the Southern constituency following the re-organisation of constituencies across Iceland. South consists of the Southern and Southern Peninsula regions. The constituency currently elects nine of the 63 members of the Althing using the open party-list proportional representation electoral system. At the 2021 parliamentary election it had 38,424 registered electors.
Southwest is one of the six multi-member constituencies of the Althing, the national legislature of Iceland. The constituency was established as Reykjanes in 1959 following the nationwide extension of proportional representation for elections to the Althing. It was renamed Southwest in 2003 when the Reykjanes area of constituency was merged into the Southern constituency following the re-organisation of constituencies across Iceland. Southwest is conterminous with the Capital region but excludes Reykjavík Municipality which has its own constituencies. The constituency currently elects 11 of the 63 members of the Althing using the open party-list proportional representation electoral system. At the 2021 parliamentary election it had 73,699 registered electors.

Jónas Kristjánsson was an Icelandic writer, newspaper journalist and editor. He was one of the most influential people in the Icelandic newspaper history during the second half of the 20th century and was one of the strongest spokespersons for moving the newspapers publications away from the political parties.
Kristín Halldórsdóttir was an Icelandic Women's List politician, journalist and schoolteacher who served two separate terms in the Althing from 1983 to her resignation in 1989 and again between 1995 and 1999. She taught at Digranesskóli in Kópavogur for two winters between 1964 and 1966 and she worked was a journalist at Tíminn and editor of the weekly newspaper Vikuna from 1974 to 1979. Halldórsdóttir was the first vice-president of the Lower House of Althing from 1986 to 1987 and was a substitute member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe for Women's List between 1987 and 1990.
