Reykjavík is the capital and largest city of Iceland. It is located in southwestern Iceland, on the southern shore of Faxaflói bay. Its latitude is 64°08' N, making it the world's northernmost capital of a sovereign state. Reykjavík has a population of around 140,000 as of 2023. The Capital Region has a population of around 248,000.
Laugardalsvöllur is Iceland's national football stadium and the home venue for the Iceland national football team. It is in Reykjavík with a capacity of 9,500, or about 28,321 for concerts.
Knattspyrnufélag Reykjavíkur, commonly abbreviated to KR, is an Icelandic football club based in the Vesturbær district of the capital, Reykjavík.
The Besta deild karla is the top level men's football league in Iceland. The competition was founded in 1912 as the Icelandic Championship. Because of the harsh winters in Iceland, it is generally played in the spring and summer. It is governed by the Football Association of Iceland (KSI) and has 12 teams. By end of season 2022–23, UEFA ranked the league No. 48 in Europe.

Knattspyrnufélagið Fram is an Icelandic sports club, best known for its football and handball teams. It was founded on 1 May 1908 in Reykjavík. It was based at Safamýri, in the Háaleiti og Bústaðir district near Reykjavík city centre before slowly moving operations to the newly established Grafarholt district.
1. deild karla, known as Lengjudeild karla for sponsorship reasons, is a football league in Iceland. It is the second highest professional level in the Icelandic football league system. The league was founded in 1955 and current champions are ÍA. The league was expanded to 12 teams for the 2007 season, after having only 10 teams for many years. Since 2008 the top three divisions have all had 12 teams.
Football is the most popular sport in Iceland. Iceland hosted the U-18 European Championship in 1997, but an Icelandic national team has qualified for the final competition of a major tournament only five times—thrice by the women's national team at UEFA Women's Euro in 2009, 2013 and 2017, and twice by the men's team at UEFA Euro 2016 and the 2018 FIFA World Cup. The only Iceland teams to advance past the group stage at a major tournament are the women in 2013 and the men in 2016.
Visa-Bikar 2009 is the 50th season of the Icelandic national football cup. It began on 22 May 2009 and ended with the final on 3 October 2009 at Laugardalsvöllur. The winners qualified for the second qualifying round of the 2010–11 UEFA Europa League.
The 2010 season of Úrvalsdeild was the 99th season of top-tier football in Iceland. It was also known as Pepsideild for sponsoring reasons. It began on 10 May 2010 and ended on 25 September 2010. Breiðablik won their first title, winning the championship on goal difference. Newly promoted sides Haukar and Selfoss were relegated to 1. deild.
The 2011 Visa-Bikar was the 52nd season of the Icelandic national football cup. It began on 30 April 2011 and ended with the final in August 2011 at Laugardalsvöllur. FH were the reigning champions, having won their second Icelandic cup last year.
The 2016 Úrvalsdeild karla, also known as Pepsi-deild karla for sponsorship reasons, was the 105th season of top-flight Icelandic football. Twelve teams contested the league, including the defending champions FH, who won their seventh league title in 2015.
Guðni Thorlacius Jóhannesson is an Icelandic historian and politician serving as the sixth and current president of Iceland. He took office in 2016 after winning the most votes in the 2016 election, 71,356 (39.1%). He was reelected in 2020 with 92.2% of the vote.
