The 1986 Canadian Grand Prix was a Formula One motor race held at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, Montreal on 15 June 1986. It was the sixth race of the 1986 Formula One World Championship.
The 69-lap race was won from pole position by Briton Nigel Mansell, driving a Williams-Honda. Frenchman Alain Prost finished second in a McLaren-TAG, with Mansell's Brazilian teammate Nelson Piquet third. Prost took the lead of the Drivers' Championship by two points from Mansell and another Brazilian, Ayrton Senna, who finished fifth in his Lotus-Renault.
This would prove to be the final Canadian Grand Prix held on the circuit in its original configuration with the pits and start/finish straight coming out of the Epingle de Casino Hairpin. After a sponsorship dispute saw the race not held in 1987, a new pit complex was built at the other end of the circuit just before the Epingle de L'ile Hairpin with the circuit also being reprofiled to accommodate a new start/finish straight that would open in time for the 1988 race. The changes to the circuit would result in one less corner (down from 19 to 18), but also added an extra 20 metres of track.

Nigel Ernest James Mansell, is a British retired racing driver who won both the Formula One World Championship (1992) and the CART Indy Car World Series (1993). Mansell was the reigning F1 champion when he moved to CART, becoming the first person to win the CART title in his debut season, and making him the only person to hold both the World Drivers' Championship and the American open-wheel National Championship simultaneously.
The Portuguese Grand Prix is a motorsports event that was first held in 1951 as a sportscar event, and then intermittently disappearing for many years before being revived again. In 1964 event was held as a sportscar race, and the 1965 and 1966 editions being held for Formula Three entrants. The Autódromo Internacional Nelson Piquet, also known as Jacarepaguá after the neighbourhood in which it was located, and also as the Autódromo Riocentro, was a motorsport circuit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Opened in January 1978, a few weeks before the 1978 Brazilian Grand Prix, it hosted the Formula One Brazilian Grand Prix on ten occasions, and was also used for CART, motorcycle racing and stock car racing. In 2012, it was demolished to make way for facilities to be used at the 2016 Summer Olympics.
