The World Athletics U20 Championships is a biennial world championships for the sport of athletics organised by the World Athletics, contested by athletes in the under-20 athletics age category (19 years old or younger on 31 December in the year of the competition.
The 5000 meters or 5000-meter run is a common long-distance running event in track and field, approximately equivalent to 3 miles 188 yards or 16,404 feet 2 inches. It is one of the track events in the Olympic Games and the World Championships in Athletics, run over 12+1⁄2 laps of a standard track. The same distance in road running is called a 5K run; referring to the distance in metres rather than kilometres serves to disambiguate the two events. The 5000 m has been present on the Olympic programme since 1912 for men and since 1996 for women. Prior to 1996, women had competed in an Olympic 3000 meters race since 1984. The 5000 m has been held at each of the World Championships in Athletics in men's competition and since 1995 in women's.
Eliud Kipchoge ( EL-ee-OOD kip-CHOH-gə; is a Kenyan professional long-distance runner who competes in the marathon and formerly competed at the 5000 metre distance. He is the 2016 and 2020 Olympic marathon winner. In addition, he set the world record in the marathon with a time of 2:01:39 at the 2018 Berlin Marathon. His run broke the previous world record by 1 minute and 18 seconds. He has been described as "the greatest marathoner of the modern era".
Andrew James Vernon is a British long-distance runner who specialised in the 5000 metres, the 10,000 metres on track and cross country running. After the 2018 commonwealth games and started to concentrate on the roads winning Manchester Half Marathon with the aim of doing a full marathon in 2019. Vernon competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics in the men's 10,000 metres. He has also competed in two Commonwealth Games, a World Indoor Championship and six World Cross Country Championships. Vernon is a two-time European Athletics Championship medallist and a Summer Universiade gold medallist. He currently competes for Aldershot, Farnham & District AC.
Joshua Kiprui Cheptegei is a Ugandan long-distance runner, Olympic Gold Medalist (5000m), World Champion (10,000m), World Cross Country Champion, and World Record Holder.
Aron Kifle Teklu is an Eritrean long-distance runner. He competed in the 5000 metres at the 2015 World Championships in Beijing, narrowly missing the final.
Selemon Barega Shirtaga is an Ethiopian long-distance runner who competes primarily in the 5000 metres and 10,000 meters. He won the gold medal at the 10,000 m at the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics. He represented his country at the 2017 World Championships finishing fifth in the final. He also won gold medals at the 2016 World U20 Championships and 2017 World U18 Championships. He won a silver medal in the men's 5000 metres at the 2019 World Athletics Championships in Doha, Qatar.

Morgan McDonald is an Australian Distance runner. He competed in the Men's 5000 metres at the 2017 World Championships in Athletics and 2019 World Championships in Athletics. McDonald competed in 2018 Commonwealth Games placed 8th in 5000 meters in 14:11.37. McDonald is an 8-time NCAA Division I All-American and 8-time Big Ten Conference champion. McDonald placed 7th at 10 km in 29:59.2 at the 2016 NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships and placed 1st in the 10 km in 29:08.3 at the 2018 NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships.
Stanley Waithaka Mburu is a Kenyan male long-distance runner who competes in the 5000 metres and 10,000 metres
Yuhi Nakaya is a Japanese long-distance runner. In 2019, he competed in the senior men's race at the 2019 IAAF World Cross Country Championships held in Aarhus, Denmark. He finished in 78th place.
Oscar Chelimo is a Ugandan long-distance runner. His older brother, Jacob Kiplimo is also an elite long-distance runner.
Adrian Garcea is a Romanian long-distance runner.
