As of the census of 2020, [7] there were 175 people, 70 households, and 49 families residing in the city. The population density was 467.4 inhabitants per square mile (180.4/km2). There were 71 housing units at an average density of 189.6 per square mile (73.2/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 92.0% White, 0.6% Black or African American, 0.6% Native American, 0.0% Asian, 0.0% Pacific Islander, 0.6% from other races and 6.3% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino persons of any race comprised 2.3% of the population.
Of the 70 households, 38.6% of which had children under the age of 18 living with them, 55.7% were married couples living together, 14.3% were cohabitating couples, 8.6% had a female householder with no spouse or partner present and 21.4% had a male householder with no spouse or partner present. 30.0% of all households were non-families. 18.6% of all households were made up of individuals, 7.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years old or older.
The median age in the city was 36.5 years. 29.1% of the residents were under the age of 20; 4.6% were between the ages of 20 and 24; 23.4% were from 25 and 44; 27.4% were from 45 and 64; and 15.4% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the city was 58.9% male and 41.1% female.

The average household size was 2.62 and the average family size was 3.13.

The average household size was 2.91 and the average family size was 3.33.

Barnum lies within the Manson–Northwest Webster Community School District, [10] and houses the district's elementary school. [11]
The district was established on July 1, 1993, with the merger of the Manson and Northwest Webster districts. [12]
