Brighton General Hospital is an acute general hospital on Elm Grove in Brighton, East Sussex. It is managed by Sussex Community NHS Trust. The main Arundel building is Grade II listed. [1]
The hospital has its origins in the Brighton Workhouse Infirmary which was designed by George Maynard and opened in September 1867. [2] It was extended to create additional wards and pavilions in the 1880s. [2] The building served as the Kitchener Indian Hospital during the First World War. [2] It became Brighton Municipal Hospital in 1930 and joined the National Health Service as Brighton General Hospital in 1948. [2] [3]
In October 2018, the trust announced that it intended to sell most of the site for residential development. [4] The plan is to convert the listed buildings for residential use, and provide a new purpose-built community health facility on part of the site. [4]
The hospital offers a range of screening, diagnostic, treatment and rehabilitation services including paediatrics, elderly care, diabetic care, back care, audiology, physiotherapy, and specialist care for heart failure, MS and Parkinson's disease. [5] The trust says that despite its name, the site is no longer a hospital as it has various clinics but no overnight beds. [6]
Whittington Hospital is a district general and teaching hospital of UCL Medical School and Middlesex University School of Health and Social Sciences. Located in Upper Holloway, it is managed by Whittington Health NHS Trust, operating as Whittington Health, an integrated care organisation providing hospital and community health services in the north London boroughs of Islington and Haringey. Its Jenner Building, a former smallpox hospital, is a Grade II listed building.
Southmead Hospital is a large public National Health Service hospital, situated in the area of Southmead, though in Horfield ward, in the northern suburbs of Bristol, England. It is part of the North Bristol NHS Trust. The 800-bed Brunel Building opened in May 2014, to provide services, which transferred from Frenchay Hospital in advance of its closure. The hospital site covers 60 acres (24 ha).

Newcastle General Hospital (NGH) was for many years the main hospital for the city of Newcastle upon Tyne, England. As part of Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust moving from three to two key sites, the hospital was closed and the majority of services transferred to the city's other two hospitals, the Royal Victoria Infirmary and the Freeman Hospital. The Accident and Emergency Department and Intensive Care closed on 16 November 2010. A walk-in centre for minor ailments and injuries remained on the site.

The Trust also provided services in Brighton General Hospital, Lewes Victoria Hospital, Bexhill Renal Satellite Unit, Eastbourne District General Hospital and Worthing Hospital.

Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust is a community health trust established as a result of the Transforming Community Services programme. It is the main provider of NHS community health services across West Sussex Brighton and Hove and has an annual budget of £185m. It became an NHS foundation trust in March 2016.
