Farmville Historic District is a national historic district located at Farmville, Prince Edward County, Virginia. It encompasses 246 contributing buildings and 1 contributing object in the central business district and surrounding residential areas of Farmville. It includes a variety of commercial, residential, institutional, and industrial buildings dating from the mid-19th to early-20th centuries. Notable buildings include the Paulett-Gill house, Farmville Presbyterian Church, Johns Memorial Episcopal Church (1881), Farmville Methodist Church (1907), Hotel Weyanoke (1925), the warehouses of the Dunnington Tobacco Company and Central Virginia Processing, Inc., the former Craddock-Terry Shoe Company, the former Cunningham and Company tobacco prizery, Norfolk and Western Railroad passenger station, Doyne Building, the Watkins M. Abbitt Federal Building (1917), Prince Edward County Courthouse, and the former Farmville High School (1913). Located in the district is the separately listed First Baptist Church.
Cumberland Court House Historic District is a national historic district located at Cumberland, Cumberland County, Virginia. The district encompasses 111 contributing buildings, 5 contributing sites, and 8 contributing objects in the county seat of Cumberland County, Virginia. It includes the governmental core of the village and the residential, commercial, educational, and religious resources that have grown up around the courthouse since Cumberland's designation as the county seat in 1777. In addition to the separately listed Cumberland County Courthouse complex, notable buildings include Burleigh Hall, Woodlawn, Center Presbyterian Church (1852), Red Rose Inn, Stewart-Crockett House, All Saints Episcopal Church, Larkin Garrett House (1903), Flippen-Crawley House (1905), Joseph Carpenter House (1903), Masonic Lodge #283 (1903), and Payne Memorial United Methodist Church (1914).
Floyd Historic District is a national historic district located at Floyd, Floyd County, Virginia. It encompasses 164 contributing buildings, 1 contributing site, and 1 contributing object in the central business district and surrounding residential areas in the county seat of Floyd. They include residential commercial, institutional, and governmental buildings largely built between 1832 and 1955. Notable buildings include the Phlegar House (1816), Ferdinand A. Winston House, Henry Dillon House (1851), Floyd High School (1913), Horatio Howard Building (1897), Freezer Shirt Factory (1936), and Floyd County Courthouse (1951-1952). The district includes commercial, residential, religious, factory and warehouse buildings in a variety of popular architectural styles including Federal, Georgian, Greek Revival, Gothic Revival, Italianate, Queen Anne, Prairie, Colonial Revival, and Craftsman. Notable buildings include Scottsville High School (1920), Riverview (1817), Chester (1847), Belle Haven, Oakwood, Herndon House (1800), The Tavern (mid-1700s), Scottsville Presbyterian Church (1832), Disciples Church (1846), Coleman's Store (1914), and the Fore House (1732). Located in the district and separately listed are Cliffside and Mount Walla.
Bryn Arvon and Gwyn Arvon are two historic homes located at Arvonia, Buckingham County, Virginia. They were built about 1891–1892, and are two slate-covered Queen Anne style dwellings. Also on the property are a contributing garage, water tower, barn, two entrance piers, the site of a house foundation, a pump house, and a storage building.
The Buckingham Female Collegiate Institute Historic District is a historic school complex and national historic district located at Gravel Hill, Buckingham County, Virginia. It is now on private property.
Bedford Historic District is a national historic district located at Bedford, Virginia. The district encompasses 208 contributing buildings in two residential neighborhoods of Bedford, known locally as the Old Avenel area and the Longwood Avenue area.
The Charlotte Court House Historic District is a national historic district located at Charlotte Court House, Charlotte County, Virginia. The district includes 46 contributing buildings, 2 contributing sites, 3 contributing structures, and 2 contributing objects in Charlotte Court House. The district is centered on the separately listed Charlotte County Courthouse. Other notable buildings include the former county jail (1936), Brick Tavern (1820), Charlotte County Farm Bureau building, St. John's Masonic Lodge (1852), Charlotte County Public Library, Village Presbyterian Church and cemetery (1835), Charlotte Court House United Methodist Church (1841), Diamond Hill, Villeview, W. B. Ramsey House, Charlotte County Elementary School (1908), and Randolph-Henry High School (1939–1940).
Berryville Historic District is a national historic district located at Berryville, Clarke County, Virginia. It encompasses 313 contributing buildings and 1 contributing object in the town of Berryville. They include a variety of residential, commercial, and industrial buildings dating from the late 18th century to the 1930s. Notable buildings include the Treadwell Smith House, Sarah Stribling House, Crow's Nest (1830s), Berryville Presbyterian Church, Grace Episcopal Church (1857), Coiner's Department Store, Clarke Milling Company, H. W. Baker Grain Warehouse, H. B. Whiting Brothers Warehouse, Berryville railroad depot (1910), the First National Bank, the Farmers and Merchants National Bank, and the U.S. Post Office (1938). The contributing object is the Clarke County Confederate Memorial on the grounds of the courthouse. Located in the district and separately listed is the Old Clarke County Courthouse.
Warrenton Historic District is a national historic district located at Warrenton, Fauquier County, Virginia. It encompasses 288 contributing buildings in the central business district and surrounding residential areas of the county seat of Warrenton. Notable buildings include the old Fauquier County courthouse (1890), Fauquier County Administration Building (1928), the former Fauquier County Public Library (1923), Fauquier National Bank (1925), "Paradise" (1758), the Thomas L. Moore House (1816), the James Caldwell House (1831), the John Quincy Marr House (1830), the Marshall Building, the California Building, old Town Hall (1854), Warrenton Presbyterian Church (1855), Ullman's Store, and "Mecca" (1859). Also located on the district are the separately listed Brentmoor and Old Fauquier County Jail.
Frederick County Courthouse is a historic county courthouse located at Winchester, Frederick County, Virginia. It was built in 1840, and is a two-story, rectangular, brick building on a stone foundation and partial basement in the Greek Revival style. It measures 50 feet by 90 feet, and features a pedimented Doric order portico and a gabled roof surmounted by a cupola. Also on the property is a contributing Confederate monument, dedicated in 1916, consisting of a bronze statue of a soldier on a stone base.
Madison County Courthouse Historic District is a national historic district located at Madison, Madison County, Virginia. The district encompasses 66 contributing buildings in the county seat of Madison. In addition to the separately listed Madison County Courthouse, there are a variety of residential, commercial, and institutional buildings dating from the early 19th to the 20th century. Notable buildings include the County Clerk's Office (1832), the Washington Tavern or Eagle House, the Arcade (1830s), Piedmont Episcopal Church (1832-1834), the Madison Presbyterian and Methodist churches (1852-1853), Hunton House Hotel, and the Linn Banks Masonic Lodge (1855).
Powhatan Courthouse Historic District is a county courthouse complex and national historic district located at Powhatan, Powhatan County, Virginia. The district includes four contributing buildings. The Powhatan County Court House was built in 1848–1849, and is a stuccoed temple-form Greek Revival style building measuring approximately 40 feet by 54 feet. There is strong circumstantial evidence that it is the work of Alexander Jackson Davis. Associated with the courthouse are the contributing former clerk's office, a "T"-shaped brick structure dated to the late-18th century; the early-19th century former jail; and Scott's or Powhatan Tavern, a large late-18th century tavern, a 2 1/2-story, brick structure.
Abingdon Historic District is a national historic district located at Abingdon, Washington County, Virginia. The district encompasses 145 contributing buildings, 2 contributing site, and 13 contributing structures in the town of Abingdon. It includes a variety of residential, commercial, and institutional buildings dating from the late-18th century to the mid-20th century. Notable contributing resources include Sinking Spring Cemetery, William King High School (1913), General Francis Preston House (1832), Martha Washington Inn, Barter Theatre, the Virginia House, Alexander Findlay House (1827), Gabriel Stickley House, Ann Berry House, Washington County Courthouse (1868), Rev. Charles Cummings House, and James Fields House (1857). Located in the district and separately listed are the Abingdon Bank and Dr. William H. Pitts House.
Albemarle County Courthouse Historic District is a historic courthouse and national historic district located at Charlottesville, Virginia. The district encompasses 22 contributing buildings and 1 contributing object centered on Court Square. The original section of the courthouse was built in 1803 in the Federal style and is now the north wing. The courthouse is a two-story, five-bay, "T" shaped brick building with a Greek Revival style portico. Other notable buildings include the Levy Opera House, Number Nothing, Redland Club, and Eagle Tavern.
Petersburg Courthouse Historic District is a national historic district located at Petersburg, Virginia. The district includes 75 contributing buildings located in the central business district of Petersburg. It is centered on the Petersburg Courthouse and includes notable examples of Greek Revival, Italianate, Federal style architecture. Notable buildings include the Paul-Lassiter House, Slaughter-Tatum House, Tabb Street Presbyterian Church Rectory, Mark E. Holt Jewelry Store, Augustus Wright Block, Virginia National Bank, Saal's Department Store, Remmie Arnold Pens Company building, A&P Super Market, Watson Court Apartments, and the Zimmer & Company Building. Located in the district and separately listed are the Petersburg City Hall, Tabb Street Presbyterian Church, and Saint Paul's Church.
Downtown Salem Historic District is a national historic district located at Salem, Virginia. The district encompasses 34 contributing buildings and 1 contributing site in downtown Salem. The district includes primarily mixed-use commercial buildings, but also includes churches, dwellings, a courthouse, a post office, a library, a park, and the covered stalls of a farmer's market. The buildings mostly date from the late-19th and early-20th century and are in a variety of popular architectural styles including Greek Revival, Italianate, and Queen Anne. Notable buildings include the Stevens House or "Old Post House" (1820s-1830s), Kizer-Webber Building (1883-1886), Duval-Oakey House (1891-1898), Salem High School, Old Salem Municipal Building and Fire Department (1925), Quality Bakery Building, Olde Newberry Building (1929), Salem Theater, and James J. True Building (1927). Located in the district are the separately listed Old Roanoke County Courthouse, Salem Presbyterian Church, and Salem Post Office.
Christiansburg Downtown Historic District is a national historic district located at Christiansburg, Montgomery County, Virginia. The district encompasses 32 contributing buildings, 1 contributing site, and 2 contributing objects in the central business district of Christiansburg. The district includes a variety of one-, two-, or three-story commercial or office buildings built primarily from the 1915-1950 period. The courthouse square is the cultural and historic center of the district. Notable buildings include the Taylor Office Building, Bank of Christiansburg (1963), Dr. George Anderson House, Zirkle Building (1910), Cromer Furniture Building, Presbyterian Manse (1876), Barnes-Surface Motor Co., Virginia Inn Hotel, and Leggett's Department Store (1958). The contributing objects are the Confederate Memorial (1883) and War Memorial (1953). Located in the district and separately listed are Christiansburg Presbyterian Church, U.S. Post Office, and Phlegar Building.
Fincastle Historic District is a national historic district located at Fincastle, Botetourt County, Virginia. It encompasses nine contributing buildings in the central business district of Fincastle. The district resources portray an excellent example of a typical small 19th century town. The buildings include examples of Late Victorian, Greek Revival, and Gothic Revival styles. Notable buildings include the Botetourt County Courthouse and jail, Methodist Church, Presbyterian Church, St. Mark's Episcopal Church (1837), the Peck House, Selander House, Ammen House, and Kyle House (1832).
