The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (Korean : 대한민국 합동참모의장; Hanja : 大韓民國合同參謀議長; RR : Daehanminguk habdongchammouijang) is the highest-ranking and most senior military officer in the Republic of Korea Armed Forces.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">ROK/US Combined Forces Command</span> Joint South Korea-US military command

ROK/US Combined Forces Command (CFC) is a joint warfighting headquarters comprising the Republic of Korea military and United States Forces Korea. It was established in 1978. During wartime it would serve as the operational command headquarters for all of the South Korean and U.S. ground, air, sea and special operations forces fighting on the Korean peninsula. Since November 2022 CFC has been headquartered at Camp Humphreys, in Pyeongtaek, Korea. Previously it was headquartered at Yongsan Garrison in Seoul.

The Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Republic of Korea is a group of chiefs from each major branch of the armed services in the South Korean military. Unlike the United States' counterpart which is primarily advisory, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff has actual operational control over all military personnel of South Korea's armed forces. The National Command Authority runs from the President and the Minister of National Defense to the Chairman and then to the Operational Commands of the service branches, bypassing the headquarters of each service branch. Currently there are five Operational Commands in the Army, two in the Navy and one in the Air Force.

General (Ret.) Kim Jang-soo, ROKA, was the 37th Chief of Staff of the Republic of Korea Army and the 40th Republic of Korea Minister of National Defense. He was a Grand National Party Representative in the National Assembly of South Korea from 2008 to 2012. General Kim graduated from the Republic of Korea Military Academy in 1971. He graduated from Korea National Defense University in 1988, then he earned a master's degree in Arts at Graduate School of Public Administration, Yonsei University in 1989.

Korea Military Academy (KMA) is the leading South Korean institution for the education and training of officer cadets for the Republic of Korea Army.
