The Anglican Communion is the third largest Christian communion after the Catholic Church and Eastern Orthodox Church. Founded in 1867 in London, the communion has more than 85 million members within the Church of England and other national and regional churches in full communion. The traditional origins of Anglican doctrine are summarised in the Thirty-nine Articles (1571). The Archbishop of Canterbury in England acts as a focus of unity, recognised as primus inter pares, but does not exercise authority in Anglican provinces outside of the Church of England. Most, but not all, member churches of the communion are the historic national or regional Anglican churches.
The Church of Nigeria is the Anglican church in Nigeria. It is the second-largest province in the Anglican Communion, as measured by baptized membership, after the Church of England. It gives its current membership as "over 18 million", out of a total Nigerian population of 190 million.
Peter Jasper Akinola is the former Anglican Primate of the Church of Nigeria. He is also the former Bishop of Abuja and Archbishop of Province III, which covered the northern and central parts of the country. When the division into ecclesiastical provinces was adopted in 2002, he became the first Archbishop of Abuja Province, a position he held until 2010. He is married and a father of six.
The Diocese of Yola is a diocese of the Anglican Church of Nigeria in the Province of Jos. The diocese was founded as one of the eight missionary dioceses created in northern Nigeria at the start of the Decade of Evangelism. It currently comprises six archdeaconries: Ganye, Koma Hills Parish, Mubi, Numan, Yola North and Yola South, with 39 parishes.
The Convocation of Anglicans in North America (CANA) is a missionary body of the Church of Nigeria. It is in a ministry partnership with the Anglican Church in North America but no longer affiliated with it in any way. Founded in 2005, it is composed primarily of churches that have disaffiliated from the Episcopal Church in the United States of America (ECUSA). CANA was initially a missionary initiative of the Anglican Church of Nigeria for Nigerians living in the United States. It joined several other church bodies in the formation of the Anglican Church in North America in 2009. In 2012, it launched his first offshoot diocese in the United States, the Missionary Diocese of the Trinity, a dual jurisdiction of the Church of Nigeria and ACNA. Today CANA is made up of two Dioceses: the Anglican Diocese of the West led by Bishop Felix Orji and the Anglican Diocese of the Trinity led by Bishop Amos Fagbamiye. In May 2019, this dual jurisdiction arrangement was terminated, though the two organizations are still in an informal ministry partnership. The Primate of the Church of Nigeria, Archbishop Nicholas Okoh appointed Bishop Felix Orji as the Missionary Bishop of CANA in May 2019.
The Anglican realignment is a movement among some Anglicans to align themselves under new or alternative oversight within or outside the Anglican Communion. This movement is primarily active in parts of the Episcopal Church in the United States and the Anglican Church of Canada. Two of the major events that contributed to the movement were the 2002 decision of the Diocese of New Westminster in Canada to authorise a rite of blessing for same-sex unions, and the nomination of two openly gay priests in 2003 to become bishops. Jeffrey John, an openly gay priest with a long-time partner, was appointed to be the next Bishop of Reading in the Church of England and the General Convention of the Episcopal Church ratified the election of Gene Robinson, an openly gay non-celibate man, as Bishop of New Hampshire. Jeffrey John ultimately declined the appointment due to pressure.
The Global Anglican Future Conference (GAFCON) is a series of conferences of conservative Anglican bishops and leaders, the first of which was held in Jerusalem from 22 to 29 June 2008 to address the growing controversy of the divisions in the Anglican Communion, the rise of secularism, as well as concerns with HIV/AIDS and poverty. As a result of the conference, the Jerusalem Declaration was issued and the Fellowship of Confessing Anglicans was created. The conference participants also called for the creation of the Anglican Church in North America, as an alternative to the Episcopal Church in the United States and the Anglican Church of Canada, and declared that recognition by the Archbishop of Canterbury is not necessary to Anglican identity.
The Abuja Province is one of the 14 ecclesiastical provinces of the Church of Nigeria. It is one of the original 10 provinces, created when the current division was adopted in 2002, due to the huge dimension and growth of the Church of Nigeria. His headquarters are located in Abuja. The diocese comprises 17 dioceses, 96 archdeaconries and 476 parishes. The first archbishop and Bishop of the Diocese of Abuja was Peter Akinola, from 2002 to 2010. He was succeeded by Nicholas Okoh, who also held office as Bishop of the Diocese of Abuja from 25 March 2010 to 25 March 2020. The current archbishop is Henry Ndukuba. He was installed on 25 March 2020.
The Bendel Province is one of the fourteen ecclesiastical provinces of the Church of Nigeria. It comprises thirteen dioceses, each one headed by a bishop and it was created in 2002, when the current division into provinces was adopted. His headquarters are located in Asaba. The first Archbishop of the Bendel Province was Albert Agbaje, who died in 2005. He was succeeded by Nicholas Okoh, latter replaced upon his election as Primate of Nigeria by Friday John Imaekhai in 2010. In 2020 Cyril Odutemu became Archbishop of Bendel.
The Ibadan Province is an ecclesiastical province of the Church of Nigeria. It was created when the division into ecclesiastical provinces was adopted in 2002, and it comprises 19 dioceses, 117 archdeaconries and 623 parishes. The present Archbishop of Ibadan Province is Segun Okubadejo, who is also the Bishop of the Diocese of Ibadan North. He succeeded Joseph O. Akinfenwa.
The Jos Province is one of the 14 ecclesiastical provinces of the Church of Nigeria. It was one of the original ten provinces created in 2002. It is divided in ten dioceses, 31 archdeaconries and 137 parishes. Their first Archbishop was Emmanuel Mani who was at that time the Bishop of Maiduguri. He served one term and handed over to Benjamin Kwashi (2008-2017) also the Bishop of Jos.). Archbishop Kwashi handed over to Archbishop Henry Ndukuba who served from 2017 to 2020. The current archbishop is Markus Ibrahim who is also the Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Yola. On March 25, 2020, Archbishop Ndukuba took over as the Primate of All Nigeria.
Duke Timothy Akamisoko is a Nigerian Anglican bishop. He is bishop of the Kubwa diocese, in the Abuja province of the Church of Nigeria, a denomination of the worldwide Anglican Communion.
The Ecclesiastical Province of Lagos is one of the 14 ecclesiastical provinces of the Church of Nigeria. It comprises 13 dioceses. The first archbishop was the Most Rev. Ephraim Ademowo, since the province of Lagos was created, in 2002 until 2013. The current archbishop is the Most Rev. Michael Fape.

The Anglican Province of Owerri is one of the 14 ecclesiastical provinces of the Church of Nigeria. It comprises 12 dioceses. The Archbishop of the Anglican Province of Owerri and Bishop of Okigwe is Most Rev. David Onuoha, who was elected in July 2020.
