About 91 National Olympic Committees qualified athletes, with Haiti and Saudi Arabia each making their Winter Olympics debuts. [5] [6] As a result of the 2020 ruling by the Court of Arbitration for Sport on the Russian doping scandal, Russian athletes competed in both the 2020 Summer Olympics and the 2022 Winter Olympics under the acronym "ROC" after the name of the Russian Olympic Committee, and under the flag of the Russian Olympic Committee. [7]
Competition began two days before the opening ceremony on 2 February, and ended on 20 February 2022. [8] Organizers went through several revisions of the schedule, and each edition needed to be approved by the IOC. [9]
