Jyotirao Govindrao Phule was an Indian social activist, businessman, anti-caste social reformer and writer from Maharashtra. His work extended to many fields, including eradication of untouchability and the caste system and for his efforts in educating women and oppressed caste people. He and his wife, Savitribai Phule, were pioneers of women's education in India. Phule started his first school for girls in 1848 in Pune at Tatyasaheb Bhide's residence or Bhidewada. He, along with his followers, formed the Satyashodhak Samaj to attain equal rights for people from lower castes. People from all religions and castes could become a part of this association which worked for the upliftment of the oppressed classes. Phule is regarded as an important figure in the social reform movement in Maharashtra.The honorific Mahātmā, was first applied to him in 1888 at a special program honoring him in Mumbai.
Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU), formerly the University of Pune, is a public state university located in the city of Pune, India. It was established in 1949, and is spread over a 411 acres (1.66 km2) campus in the neighbourhood of Ganeshkhind. The university houses 46 academic departments. College Of Engineering Pune (COEP) Technological University is a unitary public university of the Government of Maharashtra, situated in Pune, Maharashtra, India. Established in 1854, it is the 3rd oldest engineering institute in India, after College of Engineering, Guindy (1794) and IIT Roorkee (1847). The students and alumni are colloquially referred to as COEPians. On 23 June 2022, Government of Maharashtra issued a notification regarding conversion of the college into an independent technological university. On 24 March 2022, both the houses of the state government passed the CoEP Technological University bill, which has conferred a unitary state university status on the institute.

Nagaland University is a Central University established in the state of Nagaland by an Act of Parliament by the Government of India in 1989. It is headquartered at Lumami, Zünheboto District. Dr. Balasaheb Sawant Konkan Krishi Vidyapeeth, formerly Konkan Krishi Vidyapeeth, is an agricultural university at Dapoli in Ratnagiri district of the Indian state of Maharashtra. It was established on 18 May 1972 as Konkan Krishi Vidyapeeth, and got its present name on 12 February 2001 in memory of third Chief Minister of Maharashtra Shri. P. K. Sawant. Atmaram Bhairav Joshi was an Indian agricultural scientist and academic, known for his contributions to the field of wheat and other crop breeding. He was the vice-chancellor of Mahatma Phule Krishi Viswavidyalaya, Rahuri and the chairman of the Research Advisory Committee of the Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi. The Government of India awarded him the fourth highest Indian civilian award of Padma Shri in 1975.

Shrimant Balasaheb Patil is an Indian politician. He was elected to the Karnataka Legislative Assembly from Kagwad in the 2018 Karnataka Legislative Assembly election as a member of the Indian National Congress. He was one among the 17 Congress and JD(S) legislators who withdrew their support to the H.D.Kumaraswamy government in 2019. He was disqualified from his position as legislator and later joined the Bharatiya Janata Party. He won reelection from Kagwad and was inducted into the ministry of B. S. Yediyurappa in 2020. However, he was not included into the Council of ministers when Basavaraj Bommai became Chief minister.
