Pune, also previously known as Poona, is one of the most important industrial and educational hubs of India, with an estimated population of 7.4 million as of 2020. As of 2021, Pune Metropolitan Region is the largest in Maharashtra by area, with a geographical area of 7,256 sq km. It has been ranked "the most liveable city in India" several times. The Battle of Khadki, also known as or The Battle of Ganeshkhind, took place at modern day Khadki, India on 5 November 1817 between the forces of the British East India Company and the Maratha Empire under the leadership of Appasaheb Bhonsle. The Company forces achieved a decisive victory, and Khadki later became a military cantonment under the British rule.
The Bishop's School is an Indian private, unaided (independent) minority school, for boarding and day students between Nursery and 12th grade. It is located in Pune, which is the cultural capital of the state of Maharashtra. It was founded in 1864 by Bishop Harding, the adjutant general of the British Indian Army. The school was envisioned as a self-supporting institution founded for the children of warrant officers and non-commissioned officers stationed at Pune who, not belonging to Regiments, did not have regimental facilities. The Sewri Christian Cemetery in Sewri, Mumbai, India, was established by Arthur Crawford, the first Municipal Commissioner of Bombay as a location for European burials. The land was acquired from the Agri-Horticulture Society's gardens in 1865. The bodies of Commonwealth military service personnel buried in the cemetery during the First and Second World Wars were all exhumed and reburied at Kirkee War Cemetery where permanent maintenance by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission could be assured, with the exception of a Second World War soldier of the Women's Auxiliary Corps (India) whose grave is still registered and maintained by the commission.
Pune Cantt, also known as Camp, is a military cantonment located in the city of Pune, India. It was established in 1817 for accommodating troops of the Indian Army. The cantonment houses many military establishments. It is also known for its shopping locations, MG Road and East Street. The headquarters of Indian Army's Southern Command is located in Pune Cantonment. The National War Memorial Southern Command which commemorates the sacrifice of soldiers of the Indian Armed Forces is also situated in the cantonment.

The Pichola offers accommodation which is just 4 km away from the station. This is a major halt for military. This makes this an important station on Pune Suburban Railway. This station is to the east of Khadki auto rickshaw stand and is near Khadki Bazaar. This station was built for access to Khadki Cantonment. Even today this station is mostly used for Indian Army. The CAFVD Sports Stadium is in front of this railway station which hosts local association football and field hockey matches.

The cemetery was created to provide graves for the fallen from central and western India in the Second World War, where there could not be certainty about their graves elsewhere being permanently maintained.
The Delhi War Cemetery, in the Delhi Cantonment, Delhi, India, is the site of the graves of 1,154 service personnel who served the British Empire during the First and Second World Wars. The cemetery was established in 1951 to ensure the permanent preservation of the remains of soldiers across various cemeteries in northern India.
