The Democratic Attorneys General Association (DAGA) is a United States national political advocacy group that focuses on electing Democrats as state attorneys general. Its Republican counterpart is the Republican Attorneys General Association. It currently has 24 members, comprising 23 state attorneys general and the DC attorney general.

Operations

DAGA was formed in 2002. [1]

Its executive committee is made up of Nevada Attorney General Aaron Ford, Attorney General of Delaware Kathy Jennings, Attorney General of Minnesota Keith Ellison, Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul, Massachusetts Attorney General Andrea Campbell, Attorney General of California Rob Bonta, and Oregon Attorney General Ellen Rosenblum. Position on abortion

In 2019, the group announced that it would not endorse any candidate who did not support abortion. The only anti-abortion Democratic attorney general at the time was Mississippi Attorney General Jim Hood. This decision was criticized by former Senator Heidi Heitkamp. [3]

He was elected Attorney General of Virginia in 2021. The son of a refugee, he is the first Hispanic elected statewide in Virginia.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">2023 United States elections</span>

The 2023 United States elections were held, in large part, on Tuesday, November 7, 2023. The off-year election included gubernatorial and state legislative elections in a few states, as well as numerous citizen initiatives, mayoral races, and a variety of other local offices on the ballot. At least three special elections to the United States Congress were scheduled as either deaths or vacancies arose. The Democratic Party retained control of the governorship in Kentucky, flipped the Wisconsin Supreme Court and held a seat on the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, gained six seats in the New Jersey General Assembly, and won back unified control of the Virginia General Assembly, while Republicans also flipped the governorship in Louisiana and narrowly retained Mississippi's governorship. The election cycle also saw Ohio voting to enshrine abortion rights in the state constitution and legalize cannabis for recreational use. The results were widely seen as a success for the Democratic Party.

Republican incumbent Daniel Cameron retired to run unsuccessfully for governor against Andy Beshear. Republican nominee Russell Coleman was elected attorney general after he defeated Democratic nominee Pamela Stevenson.

Cinde Warmington is an American attorney, politician, and former lobbyist. A Democrat, Warmington was elected to the Executive Council of New Hampshire in November 2020, assuming office on January 6, 2021. She is currently a candidate in the 2024 New Hampshire gubernatorial election.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">2023 Louisiana Attorney General election</span>

The 2023 Louisiana Attorney General election was held on November 18, 2023 to elect the next attorney general of Louisiana, with the first round occurring on October 14. Incumbent Republican Attorney General Jeff Landry retired to successfully run for governor, leading to an open race. In the runoff, Louisiana Solicitor General Liz Murrill defeated attorney Lindsey Cheek by a margin of 33 percent.
