The Withlacoochee River originates in Georgia, northwest of Nashville, Georgia. It flows south through Berrien County where it joins the New River and forms part of the boundary between Berrien and Cook counties. It then flows south into Lowndes County, Georgia. At Troupville, Georgia the Little River joins the Withlacoochee River flows continues to flow south and forms part of the boundary between Lowndes and Brooks counties in Georgia. The river then flows into Florida for 1.34 miles before returning into Georgia for an additional 2.44 miles. It then returns to Florida, forming the northeast boundary of Madison County, Florida and the western boundary of Hamilton County, Florida and eventually merges with the Suwannee at Suwannee River State Park west of Live Oak. The river is 115 miles (185 km) long. It is believed to be the source for the name of the central Florida river of the same name.
The Econfina River is a minor river draining part of the Big Bend region of Florida, U.S.A. into Apalachee Bay. The river rises in San Pedro Bay near the boundary between Madison and Taylor counties, and flows 44 miles (71 km) through Taylor County to Apalachee Bay. It has a watershed of 239 square miles (620 km2).
Hampton Springs is located four miles from the town of Perry in Taylor County, Florida, United States. It was once the site of the famous Hampton Springs Hotel which burned down in 1954.

Clara is an area in Taylor County, on the border with Dixie County, Florida. It is between Perry and Cross City on U.S. Route 98 in Florida. The area around Clara was home to Putnam Lumber Company operations in the early 1920s, a business that became infamous for its use of convict leased labor after the brutal death by whipping of Martin Tabert. Marjory Stoneman Douglas wrote a poem, Martin Tabert of North Dakota is Walking Florida Now, about the killing.
Bucell Junction is an unincorporated area of Taylor County, Florida south of Perry, Florida. It may have been named for a transit junction near the Buckeye Cellulose Plant. Bucell Junction is near the Fenholloway River and Atlantic Camp Ground Spring. The Buckey Cellulose Plant was located east of Bucell Junction in Foley, Florida and is now the Georgia Pacific Foley Plant. The unincorporated area of Buckeye, Florida is located just north of the plant. Water pollution from the cellulose plant has been an ongoing issue. The plant is a major employer in the area.
Carbur is a former company town developed by the lumber industry in Taylor County, Florida, which operated several lumber camps around the settlement. Carbur is named for the two companies that collaborated to exploit the swampy area's cypress forests: Carpenter-O'Brien Lumber Company and Burton-Swartz Lumber Company.
Brooks-Scanlon Lumber Company was a lumber products company with large sawmills and significant land holdings in Minnesota, Florida, British Columbia, and Central Oregon. The company was formed in 1901 with its headquarters in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Beginning in 1915, its main lumber production facility was in Bend, Oregon. For many years, its Bend sawmill was one of the largest lumber producers in the world. In 1969, the company created Brooks Resources to broaden its business base beyond timber production. Brooks-Scanlon's Bend sawmill was closed in 1994. Today, Brooks Resources is the only vestige of the company that is still in business.
Rice Creek is a stream in Putnam County, Florida in Florida, a tributary of the St. Johns River. It arises in the Rice Creek Swamp west of Palatka in Putnam County, flowing north until it passes under Florida State Road 100, and then eastward, passing under U.S. Route 17 in Florida before reaching the St. Johns River. Much of Rice Creek Swamp is included in the Rice Creek Conservation Area established by the St. Johns River Water Management District. The major tributary of Rice Creek is Etonia Creek, which has a much larger watershed than does the remainder of Rice Creek. Etonia Creek joins Rice Creek about 2 miles (3.2 km) above Rice Creek's mouth on the St. Johns River. Rice Creek, excluding the area drained by Etonia Creek, has a watershed of 31.1 square miles (81 km2). Little Rice Creek is a tributary of Rice Creek which also arises in Rice Creek Swamp. The creek flows primarily through wetlands and forests. Georgia-Pacific operates a pulp mill adjacent to the creek. The State of the River Report found Rice Creek's water quality measures for the 2016–2020 period to be within acceptable levels.
Foley is an unincorporated area in Taylor County, Florida, United States. It is located about 5 mi (8.05 km) southeast of Perry. The area is named after Jerry S. Foley, who founded it as a company town for the Brooks-Scanlon Lumber Company.
