Flourensia laurifolia [2] [3] |
Flourensia is a genus of flowering plants in the family Asteraceae. [4] It contains subshrubs and shrubs, [5] which are commonly known as tarworts. [6] They are found in the southwestern United States, Mexico, and central South America (Bolivia and northern Argentina). [7] The genus name honours French physiologist Jean Pierre Flourens (1794–1867). [5]
Phylogenetic studies found that the genus as previously circumscribed was polyphyletic, and in 2023 many of the South American species were placed in the new genus Austroflourensia . [8]
20 species are currently accepted. [7] [9]
