Ghulam Dastagir Azad

Ghulam Dastagir Azad (born 1950 in Kang District, Nimruz Province) is the former governor of Nimruz Province, Afghanistan, having served from 2005 to August 2010.

In 2008, Azad survived a suicide attack that killed four of his bodyguards. [1]

In May 2010, 8 Suicide attackers entered Azad's office with intention to kill him. He survived all eight attacks, but two of his bodyguards died and Gul Makai Osmani, a female member of the Nimroz legislature, and a bystander were killed in this attack.

Unconfirmed reports state that following this attack, the Governor was transported using unknown cars and with civilian-dressed bodyguards.

The 30 June 2011 Nimruz province bombing was a roadside bombing targeting a bus of civilians killing 20 and injuring more than 30 in Nimruz province, Afghanistan. The bus was traveling on a highway between Kandahar and Nimruz province frequently used by coalition forces when it was struck by a bomb. The Taliban did not claim responsibility for the bombing.

Rouh Gul Khairzad is an Afghan politician and senator of the Meshrano Jirga. A teacher for 28 years, Khairzad was elected to the Meshrano Jirga in 2010 from the area of Nimroz, and is one of a number of female elected politicians in Afghanistan. The October 2020 Afghanistan attacks were multiple attacks launched by insurgents including the Taliban and Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant – Khorasan Province in October 2020. The attacks left at least 243 people dead and 339 injured. 10 perpetrators were also killed in these attacks.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Capture of Zaranj</span> 2021 Taliban capture of Zaranj

The capture of Zaranj, the capital of Nimruz Province, Afghanistan, occurred on 6 August 2021. According to local officials, only the National Directorate of Security (NDS) and its forces had put up a fight against the Taliban, but they too eventually surrendered to the Taliban. Local officials had been requesting reinforcements but received no response. Zaranj was the first provincial capital to be taken by the Taliban in their 2021 offensive and the first one to be captured since Kunduz in 2016.

Mullah Najibullah Rafi is an Afghan Taliban politician who is currently serving as Governor of Nimruz Province since 7 November 2021.
