Afghanistan is divided into 34 provinces. The provinces of Afghanistan are the primary administrative divisions. Each province encompasses a number of districts or usually over 1,000 villages.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Sar-e Pol Province</span> Province of Afghanistan

Sar-e Pol, also spelled Sari Pul, is one of the thirty-four provinces of Afghanistan, located in the north of the country. It borders Ghor and Bamyan to the south, Samangan to the east, Balkh and Jowzjan to the north, and Faryab to the west. The province is divided into 7 districts and contains 896 villages. It has a population of about 632,000, which is multi-ethnic and mostly a tribal society. The province was created in 1988, with the support of northern Afghan politician Sayed Nasim Mihanparast. The city of Sar-e Pol serves as the provincial capital.

Forming part of the larger Loya Paktia region, Paktika has a population of about 789,000, mostly ethnic Pashtuns. The Lodi dynasty was a dynasty that ruled the Delhi Sultanate from 1451 to 1526. It was the fifth and final dynasty of the Delhi Sultanate, and was founded by Bahlul Khan Lodi when he replaced the Sayyid dynasty.

Operation Red Wings, informally referred to as the Battle of Abbas Ghar, was a joint military operation conducted by the United States in the Pech District of Kunar Province, Afghanistan. It was carried out from late-June to mid-July 2005 on the slopes of a mountain named Sawtalo Sar, situated approximately 20 miles (32 km) west of the provincial capital of Asadabad. The operation was intended to disrupt the activities of local Taliban-aligned anti-coalition militias (ACM), thus contributing to regional stability and thereby facilitating the September 2005 parliamentary election for the National Assembly of Afghanistan. At the time, Taliban ACM activity in the region was carried out predominantly by a small group led by a local man from Nangarhar Province known as Ahmad Shah, who had aspirations of achieving regional prominence among Muslim fundamentalists. Consequently, Shah and his group were one of the primary targets of the American military operation.

Sar-e Pol or Sari Pul is the capital city of the province of Sar-e Pol Province in northern Afghanistan. It is in Sari Pul District. Sar-e Pol elevation is 2,155 ft.

Lal wa Sarjangal, is a district in the north-east of Ghor province in central Afghanistan. The district center is the town of La'l.

Aqcha is a district situated in the central part of Jowzjan province in northern Afghanistan. It borders Mardyan and Mingajik districts to the north, Sheberghan District to the West, Sar-e Pol Province to the south and Fayzabad District to the east. In 2012, the population was greater than 100,652. The district capital is the city of Aqcha, which is situated in the northern, more populated part of the district. The region is known for traditional carpets and rugs. The main road from Sheberghan to Mazar-i-Sharif passes a few kilometers south of the city of Aqcha.

Sar-e Pol District is a district of Sar-e Pol Province, Afghanistan. It contains the capital, Sar-e Pol. The estimated population in 2019 was 173,719.

Abdul Haq Shafaq is an ethnic Hazara politician in Afghanistan. He is the former governor of Faryab, Daykundi, Samangan, and Sar-e Pol provinces.

Mohammad Eqbal Munib was a Hazara politician in Afghanistan and the former governor of Ghor. Before that he had been governor of Sar-e Pol.

Anwar Rahmati is a politician in Afghanistan. He was a governor of Daykundi province beginning on November 22, 2018. Previously he served as Governor of Sar-e Pol from May 25, 2010 to April 3, 2012 and as Governor of Ghor from August 27, 2012 to June 27, 2015. Between 2004 and 2010 he was chief of staff to Karim Khalili.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Battle of Darzab (2018)</span> Taliban-Islamic State battle in Afghanistan

The Battle of Darzab was a major conflict between the Taliban and the Islamic State's Khorasan Province (ISIS–K) who fought each other over control of Jowzjan Province's Darzab District in Afghanistan. Following heavy clashes, ISIS–K was defeated, with most of the group's forces in Jowzjan Province killed or captured.

The October 2020 Afghanistan attacks were multiple attacks launched by insurgents including the Taliban and Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant – Khorasan Province in October 2020. The attacks left at least 243 people dead and 339 injured. 10 perpetrators were also killed in these attacks.
