Khyber Pakhtunkhwa,often abbreviated as KP or KPK and formerly known as the North-West Frontier Province,is one of the four provinces of Pakistan. It is located in the northwestern region of the country,along the Afghanistan–Pakistan border.

The Shinwari is an ethnic Pashtun tribe of Afghanistan and Pakistan. Among the greatest poets of the Pashto language in the 20th century was the late Ameer Hamza Shinwari,also known as "Hamza Baba". The Shinwari tribe is son of Kasi Pashtun tribe settled in the southern disctricts of Nangarhar Province,in Haska Meyna,Achin,Rodat,Bati Kot,Kot,Chaprahar,Shinwar,Dor Baba and Nazian districts. A major portion of the tribe is centered in Jalalabad and Parwan province of Afghanistan. These Shinwaris are mostly traders and businessmen. There is also a significant minority of the tribe settled in,Pakistan,a settlement 60 to 85 km south of Peshawar. There are about 2000 to 3000 Shinwaris settled in village Ali zai,15 km away from kohat. Mirdad Khel,a sub-tribe of the Shinwaris,migrated to Swat Valley in 1750s and settled there among them one of the Notable Shinwari is senator Abdul Rahim Mirdad Khel. In Afghanistan,the Shinwari are also located in Kunar province. Reporting from 2010 states that there are around 400,000 Shinwari in Afghanistan.
The Mohmand or Momand tribe is one of the most prominent Pashtun tribes. They are descended from the 1st Son of Daulatyar and 2nd son,Daudzai,according to Pashtun historical literature. They are based primarily in the eastern districts of Nangarhar Province,Afghanistan,and the Mohmand district of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province of Pakistan,bordering Nangarhar to the east.

Mohammad Nabi Mohammadi was an Afghan politician and mujahideen leader who was the founder and leader of the Harakat-i-Inqilab-i-Islami political party and paramilitary group. He served as Vice President of Afghanistan under the mujahideen from January 1993 to 1996.
Mohammad Daoud was the governor of Helmand in Afghanistan until he was removed from his post for his ties to the opium trade. Daoud was appointed in December 2005,and replaced in December 2006 after the insistence of the British ISAF troops. The U.S. used the warlords to help them hunt Al Qaeda and the Taliban and it is rumored this extended to ignoring their involvement in the production and sale of opium.

Lieutenant General Fazle Haq,,was a high-ranking general in the Pakistan Army,and the former martial law administrator (MLA) of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan. He was the "Corps-Commander" of the XI Corps,and commanded all the Pakistan Army assets assigned in the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Province. He commanded the combatant brigades,and supervised the clandestine covert network during the Soviet–Afghan War. He was one of the leading generals who led the Pakistan Combatant Forces during the Soviet–Afghan War. As military administrator,he had set up a network of training of the Afghan mujahideen. Under his command,the elements of Pakistan's administrative XI Corps participated in numerous operations against the Soviet Union.
Mohammed Daud Daud,also known as General Daud Daud,an ethnic Tajik,was the police chief in northern Afghanistan and the commander of the 303 Pamir Corps. He was an opponent of the Afghan Taliban.

Panni refers to a Pashtun tribe in Afghanistan and Pakistan. Another name for the tribe is Balailzai. Like other Pashtuns,they have Eastern Iranian genetic and ethnolinguistic heritage. They claim descent from Gharghasht,one of Qais Abdur Rashid's sons. Most of them are settled in parts of Pakistan or Afghanistan,such as Karachi,Quetta,Musakhail,Dera Ismail Khan,Mardan,Peshawar,Haripur,Kabul,Tank,Kohat,Sibi,while there are some communities in the United States,United Kingdom,and other Western countries. They were,at one point in time,holding main posts in the Government especially during the rule of Bahlol Lodhi. After his reign ended,they scattered and migrated to various parts of the Indian subcontinent and the Middle East. Some Pannis have also migrated to South India. However,most of them are settled in Pakistan. The Zamindars of Karatia in Bangladesh are of Panni descent.
Alhaj Mutalib Baig was an Afghan politician. A former commander of the Northern Alliance,and member of the Jamiat-e-Islami party,he represented Takhar province in the House of the People. Beg was an ethnic Uzbek,and a former commander of the Jamiat-e-Islami party. The party was part of the Northern Alliance,an Afghan faction that opposed the Taliban. Baig was the former police chief in Takhar in 2004 and Kunduz in 2006.
