Hilton is an unincorporated community located in Howard County in the state of Maryland in the United States of America.
In law, an unincorporated area is a region of land that is not governed by a local municipal corporation; similarly an unincorporated community is a settlement that is not governed by its own local municipal corporation, but rather is administered as part of larger administrative divisions, such as a township, parish, borough, county, city, canton, state, province or country. Occasionally, municipalities dissolve or disincorporate, which may happen if they become fiscally insolvent, and services become the responsibility of a higher administration. Widespread unincorporated communities and areas are a distinguishing feature of the United States and Canada. In most other countries of the world, there are either no unincorporated areas at all, or these are very rare; typically remote, outlying, sparsely populated or uninhabited areas.
Howard County is a county in the central part of the U.S. state of Maryland. As of the 2010 census, the population was 287,085. Its county seat is Ellicott City.

The crossroads community was formed along the crossroads of old Mantgomery road and Columbia Pike a mile south of Ellicott City, Maryland. In 1913, James Booker Clark built a mansion at Elkridge Farm resembling the White House which was destroyed by fire on 2 July 1920 with a cracked water reservoir at a time when he was facing litigation against family for a failed coal mine project. A Target store in Long Gate shopping center occupies the site. [1] [2] A National Guard Armory and later Long Gate Shopping Center dominate the eastern boundaries. The location address has been absorbed as part of Ellicott City. [3]
U.S. Route 29 is a north–south United States highway that runs for 1,036 miles (1,667 km) from the western suburbs of Baltimore, Maryland, to Pensacola, Florida. In the U.S. state of Maryland, US 29 is a major highway that emerges from Washington D.C. and runs north into eastern Montgomery County, stretching over 25.859 miles (41.62 km) through the state and terminating at Maryland Route 99 outside of Ellicott City. It serves the cities of Columbia and Ellicott City and provides the westernmost north–south route between Washington D.C. and Baltimore.
Ellicott City is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in, and the county seat of, Howard County, Maryland, United States. Part of the Baltimore metropolitan area, its population was 65,834 at the 2010 census, qualifying it as the largest unincorporated county seat in the country.
