KWKW itself is Southern California's oldest Spanish language radio station,having begun operations in 1941 at 1430AM and licensed to Pasadena and transferring to 1300AM—also based in Pasadena—in 1950. KWKW's programming and call sign moved to 1330AM from 1300AM in 1989 following Lotus' acquisition of the former and sale of the latter.
