Las Condes is a commune of Chile located in Santiago Province, Santiago Metropolitan Region. The area is inhabited primarily by upper-mid- to high income families, and known in the Chilean collective consciousness as home to the country's economic elite. Most of Las Condes' commercial activity is situated along Apoquindo Avenue, which is called colloquially "Sanhattan". It belongs to the Northeastern zone of Santiago de Chile.
According to the 2017 census of the National Statistics Institute, Las Condes spans an area of 99 km2 (38 sq mi) and has 294,838 inhabitants (135,917 men and 158,921 women), and the commune is an entirely urban area. The population grew by 17.99% (44,945 persons) between the 2002 and 2017 censuses. [3] The 2024 projected population was 343,632. [6]
Las Condes is home to a significant and growing Jewish population. The Jewish community of Las Condes has their own synagogue, Talmud Torah, and rabbi. Las Condes is also home to the Jewish sports club Estadio Israelita. [7] [8]
As a commune, Las Condes is a third-level administrative division of Chile administered by a municipal council, headed by an mayor as the main executive officer who is directly elected every four years. The 2021–2024 mayor is Daniela Peñaloza Ramos (UDI). [1] [2] The communal council has the following members:

Within the electoral divisions of Chile, Las Condes is represented in the Chamber of Deputies by Gonzalo Fuenzalida (RN), Karin Luck (RN), Catalina del Real (RN), Francisco Undurraga (Evopoli) and Guillermo Ramírez (UDI) for the Conservatives, and Tomás Hirsch (PH) for the Frente Amplio (left-wing) as part of the 11th electoral district, (together with Vitacura, Lo Barnechea, La Reina and Peñalolén). The commune is represented in the Senate by Manuel José Ossandón (RN) and Carlos Montes (PS) as part of the 8th senatorial constituency (Santiago-East).

The Deutsche Schule Santiago (or Colegio Alemán de Santiago) maintains two campuses in Las Condes: the Las Condes which has Years 7-12 and the school administration, and the Cerro Colorado campus, which houses preschool. [18]

Vitacura is a commune of Chile located in Santiago Province, Santiago Metropolitan Region. It is one of the most expensive and fashionable areas of Santiago. Inhabitants are primarily high income families. It belongs to the Northeastern zone of Santiago de Chile.
Sanhattan, a portmanteau of Santiago and Manhattan, is the popular ironic sobriquet given to Santiago's upscale financial district in Chile's capital. It is located to the northeast of the metropolis, in the western end of the Las Condes commune, nestled between the Mapocho River and Américo Vespucio avenue, encompassing the El Bosque Norte and El Golf barrios. A more narrow definition places it between the intersection of Andrés Bello and Vitacura avenues down to Nueva Los Leones avenue. The central street in Sanhattan is Avenida Apoquindo.
Lo Barnechea is a commune located in the northeastern sector of the province of Santiago and its area corresponds to 48% of this province. Its urban boundaries are: to the north with Los Andes of the Valparaíso region, to the west with Colina, to the southwest with Vitacura and Huechuraba, to the south with Las Condes and to the east with San José de Maipo. It developed around the old rural town of Lo Barnechea. Its population is heterogeneous, as it is inhabited by high- and medium-high-income families in sectors such as La Dehesa, Los Trapenses and El Arrayán, and also by medium-low- and low-income families, mainly in the towns of Lo Barnechea, Población La Ermita and Cerro Dieciocho.
Providencia is a commune of Chile located in Santiago City. It is bordered by the communes of Santiago to the west, Recoleta to the northwest, Las Condes and Vitacura to the northeast, La Reina to the east, and Ñuñoa to the south. It belongs to the Northeastern zone of Santiago de Chile.
La Florida is an urban-suburban commune of Chile located in the South East of Santiago, Santiago Metropolitan Region. Recoleta is a commune of Chile located in the north of Santiago Province. It belongs to the Santiago Metropolitan Region which is the capital and seat of the executive branch. It is south of Huechuraba, east of Independencia and Conchalí, west of Providencia and Vitacura, and north of Santiago. The Mapocho River and the San Cristóbal Hill form the natural boundary on the south and east sides, respectively, of Recoleta.
Cauquenes, a city and commune in Chile, is the capital of the Cauquenes Province and is located in the Maule Region.

Apoquindo is the name of a river and pre-Columbian settlement located east of the city of Santiago de Chile, at the foot of the foothills, in the present town of Las Condes. This settlement later became known as the Pueblo de Indios in place names Apoquindo and transferred to an estate, the Mount Apoquindo, the Apoquindo Waterfall, the Apoquindo Avenue, to the district San Carlos de Apoquindo, the Apoquindo College and other geographical landmarks and urban community.

Los Dominicos is a metro station on Line 1 of the Santiago Metro in Santiago, Chile, and is also the eastern terminal of this line.
Los Dominicos Park is a public park located at the end of Avenida Apoquindo in Santiago, Chile. The park is an access point for the Santiago municipalities of Las Condes, Vitacura and Lo Barnechea and also provides access to some parts of the municipality of La Reina. It is the site of a permanent crafts market at Los Dominicos Village, a popular tourist destination, as well as a regular local food market and Los Dominicos metro station, part of the Santiago Metro network.
Rebeca del Rosario Cofré Calderón is a Chilean politician and member of the Independent Democrat Union (UDI). In 2008 she was elected mayor of Chépica, a small commune in Colchagua Province, after running unsuccessfully for the same office four years before. She was re-elected to the office in 2012. In 2013, she was named as one of the 100 Leading Women of Chile by Mujeres Empresarias and the Economía y Negocios section of El Mercurio newspaper.
A series of bomb attacks, which continued as of 2014 with about 200 bombs up to that date, started in the capital of Chile, Santiago, in 2005.
Deutsche Schule Santiago is a German international school in Santiago. Years 7 through 12 and the school administration are at the Las Condes campus. Years one through six are at the Vitacura Campus. Preschool classes are held at the Cerro Colorado campus in Las Condes.
Political Evolution, also known in Spanish by its shorthand Evópoli, is a Chilean centre-right political party, founded in 2012. The party defines itself as a liberal platform for the people who look for a "modern centre-right who proposes as the central axis of their proposal the appreciation of diversity, the emphasis on encouraging local communities and the pursuit of social justice".
Line 7 is a new rapid transit line due to open on the Santiago Metro, in 2027. Intended to relieve the busy Line 1, the Line 7 will start in Renca in the northwest, passing through the city center, before ending in the borders of Las Condes and Vitacura in the northeast. Expected to be finished by 2028, it will add 19 new stations and 24.8 km (15.4 mi) of track to the system. Its distinctive color on the network line map is gray. Cost of construction has been set at $2.5 billion USD.
A constitutional referendum was held in Chile on 25 October 2020. The referendum asked the citizens whether they wanted a new constitution to be drafted, and if so, whether it should be written by a constitutional convention made up of directly elected citizens or by a mixed convention that was composed of currently serving members of Parliament and half of directly elected citizens. The "Approve" side won by a landslide, with 78% of voters agreeing to draft a new constitution. When it came to deciding how the new text should be written, 79% of voters opted for a "Constitutional Convention." The voter turnout was 51%.
The northeastern zone of Santiago de Chile, known as “sector oriente”, refers to the name given to the communes to the east of the Santiago commune, where the majority of the population with the highest income in Chile live. It is made up of the communes of Lo Barnechea, Vitacura, Las Condes, Providencia, La Reina, and Ñuñoa. It had 929,158 inhabitants according to the Chilean census of 2017 added to a large floating population that travels daily to the sector for work, studies or services, especially to Providencia and Las Condes through Providencia Avenue and Apoquindo Avenue, which are the main commercial and transport axis of the city and the continuation of the Alameda from downtown. Together covering the 40% of total motorized journeys in the city. Likewise, in the communal limit of Las Condes, Providencia and Vitacura is located the financial sector of Sanhattan, which has experienced significant growth in high-rise buildings destined mainly for offices and trade.
Hernán Larraín Matte is a Chilean lawyer and politician involved in centre-right politics. Larraín is an adjunct professor at the Adolfo Ibáñez University and during Sebastián Piñera's first government (2010–2014) he was presidential advisor. Then, he presided political party Evópoli (2018–2020).
