The Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) is an annual film festival organized by the Metro Manila Development Authority and held nationwide in the Philippines. The festival, which runs from Christmas Day through New Year's Day and into first weekend of January in the following year, focuses on Filipino produced films. During the course of the festival, movie theaters show only films that are approved by its jurors and exclude foreign films except in 3D theaters and IMAX theaters. It is one of the two Filipino major film festivals to exclude foreign films in a week-long period, the other being the Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino happening during August.

There are many institutions, academies and fellowships in the Philippines that hands out awards, citations and recognitions to outstanding film achievements for a certain calendar year.

Marizel Sarangelo-Placido, known professionally as Tuesday Vargas, is a Filipino actress, singer, comedian and a resident judge of TV5's Talentadong Pinoy.

Reyna Films was a Filipino film production company managed by Armida Siguion-Reyna and her son Carlitos Siguion-Reyna in 1991. It was known for its critically acclaimed and award-winning films such as Hihintayin Kita sa Langit and Ligaya Ang Itawag Mo Sa Akin. Reyna Films produced 13 films from 1991 to 2000. Armida Siguion-Reyna also appeared as actress, aside from being a producer, in three of her productions: Ikaw Pa Lang Ang Minahal, Inagaw Mo ang Lahat sa Akin and Ligaya Ang Itawag Mo Sa Akin. The company has been defunct since 2000, after Azucena.

Giorgio Pietro Verano Alvarez, better known as Gio Alvarez, is a Filipino actor in movies and television shows. He was an original member of Ang TV, a youth-oriented variety show in the Philippines.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Irma Adlawan</span> Filipino actress

Irma Santonil Adlawan is a Filipino stage, television and film actress. She is dubbed as the “Queen of Independent Cinema” for her acting prowess and exceptional contribution to the Philippine film industry.

Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino, abbreviated as PPP, is a film festival held in the Philippines in celebration of the Buwan ng Wika. It is organized by the Film Development Council of the Philippines. Similar to the Metro Manila Film Festival, only shortlisted films will be shown in cinemas except in select 3D cinemas, VIP cinemas and IMAX theaters.

The 2018 Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino is the 2nd edition of the annual Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino, organized by the Film Development Council of the Philippines. It featured 8 locally produced films which was screened from August 15 to 21, 2018.

<i>Lola Igna</i> 2019 Filipino film

Lola Igna is a 2019 Filipino Dramedy film directed and written by Eduardo Roy Jr., and starring veteran actress Angie Ferro, and Yves Flores. It had a theatrical release in the Philippines on September 12, 2019, as one of the entries of the 2019 Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino.

<i>Dark Is the Night</i> (2017 film) 2017 Filipino film

Dark Is the Night is a 2017 Filipino drama film edited, written, and directed by Adolfo Alix Jr. It stars Phillip Salvador, Gina Alajar, Bembol Roco, and Felix Roco. Set in Manila against the backdrop of President Rodrigo Duterte's drug war, the film tells the story of a middle-aged couple trying to leave behind their criminal past, only for their womanizing, marijuana-using son to go missing.
