The Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao was an autonomous region of the Philippines, located in the Mindanao island group of the Philippines, that consisted of five predominantly Muslim provinces: Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi. It was the only region that had its own government. The region's de facto seat of government was Cotabato City, although this self-governing city was outside its jurisdiction.

Matanog, officially the Municipality of Matanog, is a 4th class municipality in the province of Maguindanao del Norte, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 36,034 people.

The Interim Batasang Pambansa was the legislature of the Republic of the Philippines from its inauguration on June 12, 1978, to June 5, 1984. It served as a transitional legislative body mandated by the 1973 Constitution as the Philippines shifted from a presidential to a semi-presidential form of government.

Ansaruddin Abdul Malik Alonto Adiong He ran for mayoralty in the Ditsa-an Ramain in 2022 elections and lost. Previously, he was the representative of Lanao del Sur's 1st district (2013–2022). He was elected vice governor of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) in 2005. After Governor Zaldy Ampatuan's removal from office in 2009, Adiong became the acting governor until 2011.

Dawlah Islamiya, also called Islamic State of Lanao and formerly named as the Maute Group, is a radical Islamist group composed of former Moro Islamic Liberation Front guerrillas and foreign fighters. Based in Lanao del Sur, it was founded by brothers Abdullah and Omar Maute. The organization, which also conducted a protection racket operation in the municipality of Butig, clashes on several occasions with the Armed Forces of the Philippines, the most significant of which began in May 2017 and culminated in the siege of Marawi.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Mariam Mangudadatu</span> Filipino politician

Mariam Sangki-Mangudadatu is a Filipina politician who has been the chief executive of Maguindanao del Sur since its division from Maguindanao in 2022. Her position is currently disputed as her assumption as acting governor remains unrecognized by the Bangsamoro and national governments, the latter of which recognizes her only as the officer in charge of the province. Previously, she was the 11th and 1st female governor of Maguindanao, serving from 2019 to 2022.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">2022 Maguindanao division plebiscite</span>

The Maguindanao division plebiscite was held in the province of Maguindanao, Philippines, on September 17, 2022, more than four months after the May 9 national and local elections, after having been postponed from its planned plebiscite in or before August 2021. As required by Republic Act No. 11550, it was conducted to seek the consent of the residents of Maguindanao on the proposal to divide the province into two separate provinces that will henceforth be named Maguindanao del Norte and Maguindanao del Sur.

Maguindanao del Norte, officially the Province of Maguindanao del Norte, is a province in the Philippines located in the Bangsamoro region in Mindanao. <span class="mw-page-title-main">2022 Philippine gubernatorial elections</span>

Gubernatorial elections were held in the Philippines on May 9, 2022. All provinces will elect their provincial governors for three-year terms, who will be inaugurated on June 30, 2022 after their proclamation. Governors that are currently serving their third consecutive terms are prohibited from running as governors.

The 1977 Southern Philippines autonomy plebiscite was a plebiscite to create an autonomous region held on April 17, 1977 in parts of Mindanao and Palawan in the Philippines.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Ainee Sinsuat</span> Filipina politician

Fatima Ainee Limbona-Sinsuat is a Filipina politician who currently serves as the Vice Governor of Maguindanao del Norte. She was the last Vice Governor of Maguindanao prior to its dissolution into two provinces in 2022.
