North Korea occupies the northern portion of the Korean Peninsula which extends about 1,000 kilometres (620 mi) southward from the northeast Asian continental landmass. The 8,460 kilometres (5,260 mi) coastline of Korea is highly irregular, and North Korea accounts for 2,495 kilometres (1,550 mi) of this, roughly one-third. To the west of North Korea are the Yellow Sea and Korea Bay, and to its east lies Japan across the Sea of Japan (East Sea of Korea). Most of the islands of North Korea are on its west coast.
According to the Constitution of the Republic of Korea, its territory consisting of "the Korean Peninsula and its adjacent islands," [1] which in turn, all of the islands are wholly claimed by the ROK.
Sinŭiju is a city in North Korea which faces Dandong, Liaoning, China across the international border of the Yalu River. It is the capital of North P'yŏngan province. Part of the city is included in the Sinŭiju Special Administrative Region, which was established in 2002 to experiment with introducing a market economy. In recent years, the city, despite lagging behind the development in the capital Pyongyang, has seen a small construction boom and increasing tourism from China.
Sinŭiju Special Administrative Region is a special administrative region (SAR) of North Korea proclaimed in 2002, on the border with China. It was established in September 2002 in an area including parts of Sinŭiju and the surrounding area, in an attempt to introduce market economics, and is directly governed as in the case of "Directly Governed Cities". The special administrative region was modelled after China's Special Administrative Regions (SARs), Hong Kong and Macau, and, like them, has a "Basic Law".
Ongjin County is a county in southern South Hwanghae Province, North Korea. It is located on the Ongjin Peninsula, which projects into the Yellow Sea.
Ŭiju County is a kun, or county, in North Pyongan Province, North Korea. The county has an area of 420 km², and a population of 110,018.
Sŏnch'ŏn County is a kun, or county, on the coast of the Yellow Sea in west-central North P'yŏngan province, North Korea. To the north it borders Ch'ŏnma, to the east Kusŏng and Kwaksan, and to the west Tongrim; to the south, it borders nothing but the sea. Sŏnch'ŏn was reorganized in 1952, with two myŏn, or townships, being split off to form the new county of Tongrim.
Phihyŏn County is a kun, or county, in northwestern North P'yŏngan province, North Korea. It is bounded to the north by Ŭiju, to the east by Chŏnma, to the south by Yŏmju and Tongrim, and to the west by Ryongchŏn and the large city of Sinŭiju. It was established as a separate county in 1952, and was subsequently reorganized in 1954, 1958, 1961, 1963, 1967 and 1978.

The Pansong or Banseong Archipelago is a chain of islands located off the coast of Cholsan county, North Korea. The chain includes North Korea's largest island, Sinmi-do.
Rail transport in North Korea is provided by Korean State Railway which is the only rail operator in North Korea. It has a network of over 6,000 km of track, of which the vast majority is standard gauge; there is, however, nearly 400 km of narrow-gauge lines (762 mm) in various locations around the country.
The Korean State Railway, commonly called the State Rail is the operating arm of the Ministry of Railways of North Korea and has its headquarters at P'yŏngyang. The current Minister of Railways is Chang Jun Song.
The P'yŏngnam Line is an electrified standard-gauge trunk line of the Korean State Railway in North Korea, linking P'yŏngyang with the port city of Namp'o and the hot springs at P'yŏngnam Onch'ŏn. The length of the line is 89.9 km (55.9 mi).
Rajin station is a railway station in Rajin-guyŏk, Rasŏn Special City, North Korea. It is the junction point and terminus of both the Hambuk and P'yŏngra lines of the Korean State Railway. It is also the starting point of a freight-only branchline to Rajin Port station.
North Korea has a railway system consisting of an extensive network of standard-gauge lines and a smaller network of 762 mm (30.0 in) narrow-gauge lines; the latter are to be found around the country, but the most important lines are in the northern part of the country. All railways in North Korea are operated by the state-owned Korean State Railway.
The Manp'o Line is an electrified standard-gauge trunk line of the North Korean State Railway running from Sunch'ŏn on the P'yŏngra Line to Manp'o on the Pukpu Line. The line continues on from Manp'o to Ji'an, China.
The Hambuk Line is an electrified standard-gauge trunk line of the Korean State Railway in North Korea, running from Ch'ŏngjin) on the P'yŏngra Line to Rajin, likewise on the P'yŏngra line.
The Hongŭi Line is an electrified standard-gauge secondary line of the North Korean State Railway running from Hongŭi on the Hambuk Line to Tumangang, which is the border station between North Korea and Russia. From Tumangang the line continues across the border to Khasan, Russia. The line from Tumangang to Rajin is double-tracked, including the entirety of the Hongŭi Line; during the recent renovation a 32 km section of dual Standard/Russian gauge was installed between Tumangang and Rajin stations. The entirety of the North Korean section of the line is located in Sŏnbong county of Rasŏn Special City.
The P'yŏngra Line is an electrified standard-gauge trunk line of the Korean State Railway in North Korea, running from P'yŏngyang to Rason, where it connects with the Hambuk Line. It is North Korea's main northeast–southwest rail line.
Hongŭi station is a railway station in Hongŭi-ri, Sŏnbong county, Rasŏn Special City, North Korea; it is the junction point of the Hongŭi and Hambuk lines of the Korean State Railway.
The Baranovsky–Khasan line is about 240 km of Far Eastern Railway within Russian Railways. It leads from Trans-Siberian Railway in the south of Baranovsky along the coast of Pacific Ocean to the North Korean border in Khasan. Its continuation is the Tumangang Line. The route is mainly operated by regional trains that connect places along the route with Ussuriysk, where there is a connection with the Trans-Siberian Railway, or with the regional centers of Vladivostok and Khabarovsk.
