Friuli-Venezia Giulia is one of the 20 regions of Italy and one of five autonomous regions with special statute. The regional capital is Trieste on the Gulf of Trieste, a bay of the Adriatic Sea.

The Province of Trieste was a province in the autonomous Friuli Venezia Giulia region of Italy. Its capital was the city of Trieste. It had an area of 212 square kilometres (82 sq mi) and it had a total population of 234,668. It had a coastal length of 48.1 kilometres (29.9 mi). Abolished in 2017, it was reestablished in 2019 as the Regional decentralization entity of Trieste, and was reactivated on 1 July 2020.
Fontanafredda is a comune (municipality) of about 12,000 inhabitants in the Regional decentralization entity of Pordenone in the region of Friuli Venezia Giulia, north-eastern Italy. The town hall is located in the frazione (borough) of Vigonovo.
Cervignano del Friuli is a comune (municipality) in the Regional decentralization entity of Udine, in Friuli Venezia Giulia, Italy. It is the most important town of Bassa Friulana. It lies at about 12 kilometres (7 mi) from the Laguna di Grado and at about 18 kilometres (11 mi) from the Adriatic Sea; from the point of view of viability, its position is peculiar since it lies at the junction of the SS14, linking Venice to Trieste, and the SS352, linking Udine to Grado. Nevertheless, it is in Cervignano that the railroad from Austria, passing through Tarvisio and Udine, ends, and is linked to the one from Venice to Trieste. Its frazione (borough) of Strassoldo is a member of the I Borghi più belli d'Italia association.
Sappada is a comune (municipality) in the Regional decentralization entity of Udine, in the Italian region of Friuli Venezia Giulia. It is a member of the I Borghi più belli d'Italia association.
Lestizza is a comune (municipality) in the Regional decentralization entity of Udine in the Italian region of Friuli Venezia Giulia, located about 60 kilometres (37 mi) northwest of Trieste and about 15 kilometres (9 mi) southwest of Udine.

Sauris is a comune (municipality) in the Regional decentralization entity of Udine in the Italian region of Friuli Venezia Giulia. At an elevation of 1,212 m (3,976 ft), it is the second highest municipality in the region and one of the German language islands in Northeast Italy. Sauris is part of the Alpine pearls cooperation for sustainable tourism.

Travesio is a comune (municipality) in the Regional decentralization entity of Pordenone in the Italian region of Friuli Venezia Giulia, located about 100 kilometres (62 mi) northwest of Trieste and about 30 kilometres (19 mi) northeast of Pordenone. In Italy, direct elections were held in 720 municipalities: in each municipality (comune) were chosen mayor and members of the City Council. Of the 720 municipalities, 20 were provincial capitals and only 171 had a population higher than 15,000 inhabitants.
Debora Serracchiani is an Italian politician. Born in Rome, she is a member of Democratic Party, and was president of the Italian region of Friuli Venezia Giulia. In 2016, she proposed and got the approval of a regional law which officially abolished provinces of the Friuli Venezia Giulia, moving their competences to the lower and the upper administrative level, which were respectively the Italian comune and the region. Friuli Venezia Giulia was the first region to implement the 2014 Delrio national law.
