The Los Angeles Department of Transportation, commonly referred to as LADOT, is a municipal agency that oversees transportation planning, design, construction, maintenance and operations within the city of Los Angeles. LADOT was created by city ordinance, and is run by a general manager appointed by the Mayor of Los Angeles, under the oversight of a citizens' commission also appointed by the mayor. LADOT is best known for providing public transportation to the City of Los Angeles. It currently operates the second-largest fleet in Los Angeles County next to Metro. It consist of over 300 vehicles, serving nearly 30 million passengers a year and operating over 800,000 hours.
LADOT also develops the traffic signal timing and transportation planning for the city. Actual road maintenance and construction is provided by the Los Angeles City Department of Public Works through StreetsLA, formerly the Bureau of Street Services, and the Bureau of Engineering. LADOT performs many transportation related duties, with six main operating groups: Parking Enforcement & Traffic Control, Operations, Project Delivery, Parking Management & Regulations, Transit Services, and Administration. DASH is LADOT's system of neighborhood circulator bus services. DASH buses serve to provide localized service in a neighborhood, and for passengers making longer trips, acting as a feeder to the countywide Metro Bus and Metro Rail system.
The name DASH started as acronym for Downtown Area Short Hop, the original purpose of the service. Since its launch in Downtown Los Angeles, DASH has expanded to 27 other neighborhoods in the City of Los Angeles.
DASH buses are 30 feet (9.1 m) or 35 feet (11 m) long, making it easier to navigate in dense neighborhoods with narrower streets and tighter turns compared to a typical 40-foot (12 m) transit bus. All buses in the DASH fleet are powered by either low-emission CNG or Propane engines or are zero-emission battery electric buses.

Commuter Express is an express bus service, consisting of 15 routes, all but one running during rush hours only. Service started in 1985. [30] Fares are based on a flat rate for travel on streets plus an extra charge based on the distance traveled on freeways.
Most Commuter Express buses are 40-foot (12 m) or 45-foot (14 m) MCI D-Series motorcoaches, offering a more comfortable ride on these longer routes. All buses in the Commuter Express fleet are powered by low-emission CNG engines or are zero-emission battery electric buses.
Route 142 operates more like a normal transit route, operating daily at all hours, using more typical transit buses. The route was previously operated by Long Beach Transit. [31]
Routes 419, 423, 431, 437, 438, and 448 are former Southern California Rapid Transit District lines that were transferred to LADOT. [32]
Unless otherwise noted, all services operates towards Downtown LA during the morning rush and from Downtown LA during the afternoon rush. For the purposes of this chart, closed-door means that customers are not allowed to use buses for local trips and open-door means that customers are allowed to use buses for local trips.

The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (LACMTA), branded as Metro, is the county agency that plans, operates, and coordinates funding for most of the public transportation system in Los Angeles County, California, the most populated county in the United States.
Civic Center/Grand Park station is an underground rapid transit station on the B Line and D Line of the Los Angeles Metro Rail system. The station also has street level stops for the J Line of the Los Angeles Metro Busway system. The station is located under Hill Street at its intersection with 1st Street. It is located in the Civic Center neighborhood of Los Angeles, after which the station is named, alongside the nearby Grand Park.
Pershing Square station is an underground rapid transit station on the B Line and D Line of the Los Angeles Metro Rail system. The station also has street-level stops for the J Line of the Los Angeles Metro Busway system. The station is located under Hill Street between 4th and 5th Street. It is located in Downtown Los Angeles with one station entrance across the street from Pershing Square, after which the station is named, and the other is located near the historic Angels Flight funicular which provides access to the high-rise office buildings in the Bunker Hill neighborhood.
Pico station is an at-grade light rail station on the Los Angeles Metro Rail system located on Flower Street at the intersection of Pico Boulevard. The station also has southbound bus stops on Flower Street, across from the station and northbound bus stops on Figueroa Street, one block to the west. Pico station serves the South Park and Figueroa/Convention District neighborhoods.
The Southern California Rapid Transit District was a public transportation agency established in 1964 to serve the Greater Los Angeles area. It was the successor to the original Los Angeles Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA). California State Senator Thomas M. Rees sponsored the bill that created the RTD, which was meant to correct some deficiencies of the LAMTA, and took over all of the bus service operated by MTA on November 5, 1964. RTD was merged into the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority in 1993.
San Joaquin Regional Transit District is a transit district that provides bus service to the city of Stockton, California and the surrounding communities of Lodi, Ripon, Thornton, French Camp, Lathrop, Manteca, and Tracy. In 2023, the system had a ridership of 2,432,000, or about 9,700 per weekday as of the third quarter of 2024.
Arlington Transit (ART) is a bus transit system that operates in Arlington County, Virginia, and is managed by the county government. The bus system provides service within Arlington County, and connects to Metrobus, nearby Metrorail stations, Virginia Railway Express, and other local bus systems. Most ART routes serve to connect county neighborhoods to local Metrorail stations, as well as the Shirlington Bus Station. It includes part of the Pike Ride service along Columbia Pike, which is shared with WMATA. In 2023, the system had a ridership of 2,258,200, or about 8,400 per weekday as of the third quarter of 2024.
Chatsworth station is an intermodal passenger transport station in the Los Angeles neighborhood of Chatsworth, United States. It is served by Amtrak Pacific Surfliner inter-city rail service, Metrolink Ventura County Line commuter rail service, and the Metro G Line of the Los Angeles Metro Busway bus rapid transit. The station is also served by Los Angeles Metro Bus and Simi Valley Transit local buses, plus Santa Clarita Transit and LADOT Commuter Express regional express bus routes.
Long Beach Transit (LBT) is the operator of public transit bus and ferry services in Long Beach, California and its surrounding cities. Long Beach Transit operates 37 bus routes, serving the Gateway Cities region of Los Angeles County. In addition to its bus services, LBT contracts with Catalina Express for the operation of two water taxi routes, and organizes the Dial-A-Lift paratransit service.
The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority operates a vast fleet of buses for its Metro Bus and Metro Busway services. As of September 2019, Metro has the third largest bus fleet in North America with 2,320 buses.
37th Street/USC station is a busway station located in Los Angeles, California. It is situated between the LATTC/Ortho Institute and Slauson stations on the J Line, a bus rapid transit route which runs between El Monte, Downtown Los Angeles and San Pedro as part of the Metro Busway system. The station consists of two side platforms in the center of Interstate 110 above 37th Street, adjacent to the University of Southern California campus. The station serves the University Park, Exposition Park and Historic South Central neighborhoods of Los Angeles.
Slauson station is a busway station located in Los Angeles, California. It is situated between the 37th Street/USC and Manchester stations on the J Line, a bus rapid transit route which runs between El Monte, Downtown Los Angeles and San Pedro as part of the Metro Busway system. The station consists of two side platforms in the center of Interstate 110 above Slauson Avenue. The station serves the Vermont-Slauson, South Park and Florence neighborhoods of Los Angeles.
LA General Medical Center station is a busway station located in the Boyle Heights neighborhood of Los Angeles, California. It is situated between Union Station and Cal State LA station on the El Monte Busway. The station is served by two bus rapid transit routes: the J Line, operated by Metro and the Silver Streak, operated by Foothill Transit. It is also used by several Metro Express and Foothill Transit bus services, most of which only run during weekday peak periods. The station consists of an island platforms in the center of the El Monte Busway, near its namesake, the Los Angeles General Medical Center. The station was completed on November 4, 1974, and is accessed by a bridge from Pomeroy Avenue between Kingston Avenue and Brittania Street.
LATTC/Ortho Institute station, officially Los Angeles Trade–Technical College/Orthopaedic Institute for Children station, is an at-grade light rail station on the E Line of the Los Angeles Metro Rail system. The station is located alongside Flower Street between 23rd Street and Adams Boulevard. The station is located near the Los Angeles Trade–Technical College (LATTC) and the Orthopaedic Institute for Children, after which the station is named. In addition to the LATTC campus and the Ortho Institute, the station also serves the North University Park neighborhood. The station also has nearby stops for the J Line of the Los Angeles Metro Busway system, southbound buses stop on Flower Street, across from the station at both 23rd Street and Adams Boulevard and northbound buses stop on Figueroa Street, one block to the west.
Patsaouras Transit Plaza is a bus station on the east side of Union Station in Downtown Los Angeles, near the El Monte Busway. It was originally named the Gateway Transit Plaza but was renamed after Nick Patsaouras, former Rapid Transit District board member who was an advocate for public transportation.
Grand Avenue Arts/Bunker Hill station is an underground light rail station on the A and E lines of the Los Angeles Metro Rail system. The station also has street level stops for the J Line of the Los Angeles Metro Busway system. The station is located under the intersection of 2nd Place and Hope Street, near the Grand Avenue Arts district and in the Bunker Hill neighborhood of Downtown Los Angeles, after which the station is named. In planning documents, the station was originally referred to as 2nd Place/Hope.
Historic Broadway station is an underground light rail station on the A and E lines of the Los Angeles Metro Rail system. It is located at the southeast corner of 2nd Street and Broadway in the Historic Core section of Downtown Los Angeles. In planning documents, the station was originally going to be named 2nd St/Broadway.
