Harbor Freeway station (formerly Harbor Freeway/I-105 station) is a transport hub located on the Harbor Transitway, within the Judge Harry Pregerson Interchange of Interstate 105 and Interstate 110 near Figueroa Street in the neighborhood of South Los Angeles. The station is served by the light rail C Line, the bus rapid transit J Line and other bus services. The station is owned by the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) and operated by the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro).
The station has three levels: the upper level provides access to the C Line, the middle level has the connections to local bus services and the 253 space park and ride lot, and the lower level provides access to the J Line and other express buses operating on the Harbor Transitway. It is located near the Athens district of Los Angeles. [4]

C Line service hours are approximately from 4:00 a.m. until 12:30 a.m. daily. Trains operate every 10 minutes throughout the day. Night and early morning weekend service is every 20 minutes. [5]
J Line buses run 24 hours a day between El Monte Station, Downtown Los Angeles, and the Harbor Gateway Transit Center as route 910, with some trips continuing to San Pedro between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m. and signed as Route 950. On weekdays, buses operate every four to eight minutes during peak hours, with longer headways of 10 minutes in the midday, 20 minutes during evenings, 40 minutes during nights, and every hour overnight. On weekends, buses arrive every 15 minutes most of the day, with longer headways of 20 minutes during evenings, 40 minutes during nights, and every hour overnight. [6]

Due to the upper platform's location within a freeway medium and in the interchange of two of Los Angeles' busiest freeways, it has received criticism for subjecting C-train riders to significant amounts of highway traffic noise and has been cited as a notable example of hostile transit infrastructure. [8]
The site is approximately the former Forest (later South Los Angeles) station on the San Pedro via Gardena Line of the Pacific Electric. It was also the southern terminus of the Los Angeles Railway 7 Line, allowing interchanges between the two systems. Pacific Electric service ended in 1940, while the 7 Line ran until 1955.
On February 22, 2012, a drunk driver on the Harbor Freeway mistakenly entered the bus-only station area of the Harbor Freeway station. The driver, 51-year-old Stephen L. Lubin of Sun Valley, was traveling 80 miles per hour (130 km/h) in his 2009 Honda Fit (15 mph (24 km/h) over the freeway's posted speed limit) as he entered the station and encountered a bus stopped at the platform. Lubin swerved to avoid hitting the bus and drove onto the station platform where he hit seven people, critically injuring six, before slamming into a pole on the platform. [9]
After the crash, Metro's CEO Art Leahy asked Metro's safety committee staff to review the layout of busway stations and safety signage on the roadways leading into the station areas. [10] As a result of that investigation, Metro added concrete-filled metal bollards to all stations on the Harbor Transitway and the El Monte Busway to prevent vehicles from entering the platform and additional markings were added on roadways leading into stations. [11]
Civic Center/Grand Park station is an underground rapid transit station on the B Line and D Line of the Los Angeles Metro Rail system. The station also has street level stops for the J Line of the Los Angeles Metro Busway system. The station is located under Hill Street at its intersection with 1st Street. It is located in the Civic Center neighborhood of Los Angeles, after which the station is named, alongside the nearby Grand Park.
Pershing Square station is an underground rapid transit station on the B Line and D Line of the Los Angeles Metro Rail system. The station also has street-level stops for the J Line of the Los Angeles Metro Busway system. The station is located under Hill Street between 4th and 5th Street. It is located in Downtown Los Angeles with one station entrance across the street from Pershing Square, after which the station is named, and the other is located near the historic Angels Flight funicular which provides access to the high-rise office buildings in the Bunker Hill neighborhood.
7th Street/Metro Center station is an underground light rail and rapid transit station on the A, B, D, and E lines of the Los Angeles Metro Rail system. The station also has street level stops for the J Line of the Los Angeles Metro Busway system. The station is located under 7th Street, after which the station is named, at its intersections with Figueroa, Flower and Hope Streets.
The Harbor Transitway is a 10.3-mile (16.6 km) shared-use express bus corridor and high occupancy toll (HOT) lanes running in the median of Interstate 110 between Downtown Los Angeles and the Harbor Gateway Transit Center in Gardena, California. Buses also make intermediate stops at 37th Street/USC, Slauson, Manchester, Harbor Freeway, and Rosecrans stations. The facility opened for two-person carpools on June 26, 1996, for buses on August 1, 1996 and was converted to HOT lanes as part of the Metro ExpressLanes project on November 10, 2012.
The El Monte Busway is a 12-mile (19 km) shared-use express bus corridor (busway) and high occupancy toll (HOT) lanes running along Interstate 10 between Union Station in Downtown Los Angeles and Interstate 605 or El Monte Station in El Monte, California. Buses also make intermediate stops at Cal State LA station and LA General Medical Center station. The busway opened in January 1973 to buses only, three-person carpools were allowed to enter in 1976, and the facility was converted to HOT lanes as part of the Metro ExpressLanes project on February 22, 2013.
Vermont/Athens station is a below-grade light rail station on the C Line of the Los Angeles Metro Rail system. It is situated in the median of Interstate 105 and named after Vermont Avenue and the Athens community where it is located. It opened as part of the Green Line on August 12, 1995.

37th Street/USC station is a busway station located in Los Angeles, California. Harbor Gateway Transit Center, formerly Artesia Transit Center, is a large bus station at the southern end of the Harbor Transitway that serves as a transport hub for the South Bay region of Los Angeles County including the Harbor Gateway neighborhood of Los Angeles and cities of Carson, Gardena, and Torrance. The station consists of one large island platform with 12 bus bays and a 980 space park and ride parking lot located in the southwest corner of Interstate 110 and California State Route 91.

LA General Medical Center station is a busway station located in the Boyle Heights neighborhood of Los Angeles, California. The station is served by two bus rapid transit routes: the J Line, operated by Metro and the Silver Streak, operated by Foothill Transit. It is also used by several Metro Express and Foothill Transit bus services, most of which only run during weekday peak periods. The station consists of an island platforms in the center of the El Monte Busway, near its namesake, the Los Angeles General Medical Center. The station was completed on November 4, 1974, and is accessed by a bridge from Pomeroy Avenue between Kingston Avenue and Brittania Street.
The J Line is a 38-mile (61.2 km) bus rapid transit line that runs between El Monte, Downtown Los Angeles and the Harbor Gateway, with some trips continuing to San Pedro. It is one of the two lines in the Metro Busway system operated by the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro).
GTrans is a municipal transit agency that serves Gardena, California and surrounding Los Angeles County neighbourhoods. It was founded on January 15, 1940, as Gardena Municipal Bus Lines. On the agency's 75th anniversary, the agency was renamed as GTrans. The bus lines complement the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority's crosstown routes through the city. In 2023, the system had a ridership of 2,131,500, or about 8,900 per weekday as of the fourth quarter of 2023.
LATTC/Ortho Institute station, officially Los Angeles Trade–Technical College/Orthopaedic Institute for Children station, is an at-grade light rail station on the E Line of the Los Angeles Metro Rail system. The station is located alongside Flower Street between 23rd Street and Adams Boulevard. The station is located near the Los Angeles Trade–Technical College (LATTC) and the Orthopaedic Institute for Children, after which the station is named. In addition to the LATTC campus and the Ortho Institute, the station also serves the North University Park neighborhood. The station also has nearby stops for the J Line of the Los Angeles Metro Busway system, southbound buses stop on Flower Street, across from the station at both 23rd Street and Adams Boulevard and northbound buses stop on Figueroa Street, one block to the west.
