Luanshya (constituency)

Luanshya is a constituency of the National Assembly of Zambia. The modern constituency covers all but the western parts of Luanshya and the town of Fisenge in Luanshya District of Copperbelt Province. [1]

The constituency was established in 1941 when Ndola was split into two and originally covered the towns of Luanshya and Mufulira. [2] It was later reconfigured to cover Luanshya and Kansenji and then Luanshya and Kalulushi.

Luanshya is a town in Zambia, in the Copperbelt Province near Ndola. It has a population of 117,579. The name Luanshya is the Lamba word which means a place of entelope, inshya is antelope and the area was surrounded with the entelope family and the reason the name was given which is related to the antelope family.

The original Mwinilunga constituency was formed for the 1964 Legislative Council elections. In 1973 it was split into Mwinilunga East and Mwinilunga West. Mwinilunga East was subsequently renamed Mwinilunga in 2011, with Mwinilunga West being renamed Ikeleng'i.
