Nkana (constituency)

Nkana is a constituency of the National Assembly of Zambia. It covers the western part of the city of Kitwe in Kitwe District, including the city centre and the suburb of Nkana. [1]

History

The constituency was established in 1938 and originally covered Kasempa, Mufulira, Mwinilunga, Nkana and Solwezi. [2] In 1941 its borders were redrawn to cover only Chingola and Nkana. [3] In 1948 it was reduced to covering only Kitwe. [4]

Northern Rhodesia 1911–1964 British protectorate in Africa

Northern Rhodesia was a British protectorate in south central Africa, now the independent country of Zambia. It was formed in 1911 by amalgamating the two earlier protectorates of Barotziland-North-Western Rhodesia and North-Eastern Rhodesia. It was initially administered, as were the two earlier protectorates, by the British South Africa Company (BSAC), a chartered company, on behalf of the British Government. It has a complex of mines on its north-western and western edges.

1962 Northern Rhodesian general election

General elections were held in Northern Rhodesia on 30 October 1962, with by-elections for several seats held on 10 December. Although the United Federal Party won the most seats in the Legislative Council, and Northern Rhodesian African National Congress leader Harry Nkumbula had made a secret electoral pact with the UFP, Nkumbula decided to form a government with the United National Independence Party.

Ek Park is a cricket ground in Kitwe, Zambia. The first recorded match on the ground came in 1957 when Northern Rhodesia played the touring Australians.

1929 Northern Rhodesian general election

General elections were held in Northern Rhodesia on 31 August 1929. One issue in the elections was the proposed amalgamation of the colony with neighbouring Southern Rhodesia.

1938 Northern Rhodesian general election

Chambishi is a town in Kalulushi District in the Copperbelt Province of Zambia. According to the 2021 Census its population stands at slightly above 11,000. It is located in the approximate centre of the province, and on the T3 Road between the cities of Kitwe and Chingola.

Sikota Wina was a Zambian politician. He was a member of the Legislative Council and the National Assembly and the country's first Minister of Health. He also held the posts of Minister for Local Government and Minister of Information, Broadcasting and Tourism.

1926 Northern Rhodesian general election

The T3 is a Trunk Road in Zambia. The road runs from Kapiri Mposhi via Ndola, Kitwe and Chingola to Kasumbalesa on the border with DR Congo. The entire route is a toll road.

Ester Banda was a Zambian politician. She served as a member of the National Assembly for Roan from 1964 to 1968 and was jointly one of the first elected female MPs in Zambia.
