Miss Russia 2009 the 17th edition of the Miss Russia pageant, held on March 7, 2009 at Manezh Central Exhibition Hall in Moscow. 50 contestants from all over Russia compete for the crown. the reigning Miss World 2008, Ksenia Sukhinova of Tyumen crowned her successor Sofia Rudieva of Saint Petersburg as the brand new Miss Russia. Dayana Mendoza participated in the event.

Miss Universe is an annual international major beauty pageant that is run by a United States and Thailand-based Miss Universe Organization. Along with Miss World, Miss International, and Miss Earth, Miss Universe is one of the Big Four international beauty pageants.
Miss World is the oldest existing international beauty pageant. It was created in the United Kingdom by Eric Morley in 1951. Since his death in 2000, Morley's widow, Julia Morley, has co-chaired the pageant. Along with Miss Universe, Miss International, and Miss Earth, it is one of the Big Four international beauty pageants.
Oksana Gennadyevna Borodina, known professionally as Oxana Fedorova, is a Russian television presenter, singer, actress, fashion designer, model and beauty queen, crowned Miss Universe 2002. Outside of her career in the entertainment industry, Fedorova is a former police officer.
Miss World 2005, the 55th edition of the Miss World pageant, was held on 10 December 2005 at the Crown of Beauty Theatre in Sanya, China. María Julia Mantilla of Peru crowned her successor Unnur Birna Vilhjálmsdóttir of Iceland. 102 contestants from all over the world competed for the crown. All contestants competed in three "fast track" events, Beach Beauty, Miss Talent, and Beauty With a Purpose contests. The winner of each competition immediately became one of the fifteen pageant semi-finalists. She became the third Icelandic woman to win Miss World.
Taťána Kuchařová is a Czech dancer, model and beauty queen who won the title of Miss Czech Republic and Miss World 2006. In doing so, she made history to become the first woman from the Czech Republic ever to win the title at the final event of the Miss World competition, held on 30 September 2006, in Warsaw, Poland. She finished in second place in StarDance, the Czech version of Dancing with the Stars, in 2013.

Originally, the pageant was going to take place in Kyiv, Ukraine, but because of the ongoing 2008 Russo-Georgian diplomatic crisis in neighbouring South Ossetia, the Miss World Organization decided to move the pageant away from Eastern Europe. 109 contestants from all over the world compete for the crown, the second highest turnout in the 59 years of the pageant. Zhang Zilin of China crowned Ksenia Sukhinova of Russia as the brand new Miss World.
Ksenia Vladimirovna Sukhinova is a Russian model, television host and beauty queen who was crowned Miss World 2008. She was the second Russian woman to be crowned Miss World, and had previously been crowned Miss Russia 2007.

Ksenia Sukhinova of Russia crowned her successor Kaiane Aldorino of Gibraltar at the end of event. It is the first time that someone from Gibraltar won Miss World. In the past, people from mainland Britain have won.
